ASA SPEED TRUCK CHALLENGE HEADS TO THE ORANGE SHOW SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY
ASA SPEED TRUCK CHALLENGE
Source: Dave Grayson
The ASA Speed Truck Challenge began its 2007 season, March 3d, at the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway, in Blythe-California, where Jim Putman picked up the win, after leading all 100 laps, in a totally dominating performance. Some pre season testing made all the difference in the world for Putman's team and it showed that night. He is expected to be equally as tough this Saturday night in San Bernardino. But he's also expected to have plenty of competition from such series notables as Victor Pfluger who ran a very strong second at Blythe. Also never to be overlooked is the 2006 series champion Darren Young, from United Nissan Racing, who is coming off from a spectacular 2006 season. Also expected to be a factor in Saturday's race is Young's teammate: rookie driver Bear Rzenowiecky. This 16 year old sensation from Las Vegas has really turned a lot of heads and many people are predicting big things for him. Also from this year's rookie class is young Austin Murphy who scored an impressive top five at Blythe.
These full sized racing pick up trucks going full bore on a short track is an awesome sight and is loaded with door to door racing action and during the course of their 100 lap feature just about anything can happen. If the season opener is any strong indication, then this just might be one of the ASA Speed Truck Challenge Series' best seasons to date.
While the trucks are going to be the focal point this Saturday night there's going to be plenty of action from some of the Orange Show Speedway's regular, ASA sanctioned, racing divisions. The ASA Outlaw Figure Eights will be making their second appearance of the season. Tom Smith won the division's season opener back on March 3d and will be looking for the repeat. Also on the schedule are the ASA Parker Pumper/BSR West Late Models. Brian Malone won the division's season opener and can expect plenty of competition from 2006 division champion Jim Conklin. The always fun ASA Stock Ponys will also see action Saturday night and fans of this division can expect to see another round of the Jim and Jim show. Jim Edmiston won the season opener with 2006 division champion Jim Mardis right behind him. It appears that these two drivers are going to pick up where they left off last year.
The Orange Show Speedway is located at the National Orange Show Events Center, on South E Street, in downtown San Bernardino. The spectator gates will open at 5 pm with the racing getting underway at 7 pm. For more information dial up the speedway's official website at www.nosevents.com and click on speedway.
