The Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway, a quarter mile paved oval located at the Colorado River Fairgrounds in Blythe-California, is down to its final two weekends of its 2006-2007 Winter Blast Series and it appears that the track is going to conclude its series in a very big way. The K&N Performance Filters Late Model Series will decide its championship, at the April 14th race, and making things more interesting will be the fact that the race winner will get a $1,000 paycheck for the effort. Also deciding their championship Satuday night will be the Sunoco Fuel Pure Street Stocks. Making the night even more entertaining will be the presence of the West Coast Speed Trucks.
In the K&N Performance Filters Late Model standings Chris Gerchman has been on top of the standings all season long. With two main event feature wins under his belt, Gerchman goes into Saturday night with 292 points. Still very much in the championship picture, with a feature win this year, is Ron Daniel who is only 22 points behind the leader in a situation where anything can happen. Victor Pfluger goes into Saturday night third in the standings and only 24 points away from the leader.
Traditionally the championship for the Sunoco Fuel Pure Street Stocks have been close knit affairs and this year is apparently not going to be any different. Richard Selph, with three feature wins, goes into Saturday night as the division leader with 372 points but it's only an eight point lead over two time feature winner Ryan Kerr. This title run is expected to go down to the final lap of the race. Two time feature winner Danny Dill is also invovled in this senario and is only 14 points behind the leader in third.
Track championships that were decided back on March 31st include Gary Scheuerell the new EZ Up Legends champion who won the last three feature races in a row. The Bandelero title was claimed by young Tyler Fabozzi who scored two feature wins at Blythe to help get him there.
The West Coast Pro Trucks are always an exciting addition to any racing program. Powered by V8 engines, the series features the Ford F150, Chevrolet Siverado and the Dodge Ram. The big question here will be which driver can stop of momentum of 2006 series champion Jeff Williams. In two races, so far in 2007, Williams has won both of them.
Also on the card for Saturday will be the always fun Factory Stocks. However, there will be an interesting twist to their race which will showcase the talents of the lady drivers.
The spectator gates open at 5 pm and the racing begins at 7 pm. For more information dial up the speedway's official website at www.i10speedway.com.
