MISFORTUNE STRIKES ‘CHUBZILLA’ IN CIRCLE K COLOSSAL 100

BEAR LAKE, PA – Chub Frank felt great about his chances to contend in Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win Circle K Colossal 100 spectacular at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

But Lady Luck didn’t have the same thoughts as ‘Chubzilla,’ whose hopes for a lucrative finishing position were dashed by mechanical trouble just three laps into the second annual event. His Lester Buildings, Corry Rubber, All Star Performance, Corry Laser, Slavic Corporation, Farr MotorSports, Lake Shore Paving, Custom Race Engines, Impala SS Rocket Chassis No. 1* lost oil pressure, forcing him to retire and settle for a 33rd-place finish.

“Something came up (off the track) and hit the dry-sump pump and the engine lost oil pressure,” said Chub, who transferred to the Colossal with a second-place finish in his Friday-night heat race. “I don’t think it hurt the motor, but we sent it back anyway to get checked out.

“The car was good before that happened. We had only run a few laps, but we had already come from 12th to fifth or sixth, so I think we could’ve been in the hunt.”

After being very critical of The Dirt Track’s rough racing surface following the inaugural Colossal 100 last year, Chub praised the conditions this time around.

“The track was awesome – the best track I’ve ever seen at Lowe’s,” said Chub. “I wish we would’ve lasted longer, because you could race all over it.

“It’s a multi-million-dollar facility,” he added, “and they finally got a track (surface) to match it.”

The Colossal 100 was a World of Outlaws Late Model Series event, but it offered only show-up points so Chub didn’t take a hit in the tour championship battle. He remains fifth in the standings, 22 points behind co-leaders Shannon Babb and Clint Smith.

Chub will head to the Midwest this weekend for a World of Outlaws Late Model Series doubleheader, competing at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway on Fri., April 27, and Kamp Motor Speedway in Boswell, Ind., on Sat., April 28.####
