NASCAR'S FUTURE STARS SHOWCASED AS GRAND NATIONAL WEST TOUR VISITS ALTAMONT MOTORSPORTS PARK THIS SATURDAYTracy, Calif. -- The future of NASCAR racing will be showcased on Saturday, April 28th, as NASCAR's Grand National Division, West Series visits Altamont Motorsports Park (AMP) for one of two events this season. The 200 lap race, one of AMP's biggest events of the year, will be broadcast live on HDNet and at a future date on SPEED TV.

"Altamont Motorsports Park is honored to host two NASCAR Grand National events this year," said Jeff Macey, AMP President and General Manager. "This Saturday's event promises to present some of the most exciting stock car racing action that Northern California has seen in years. "

The Grand National West Series has launched driving careers for Kevin Harvick, Brendan Gaughan, Lance Hooper, Rick Carelli, David Gilliland and others.

Grand National West drivers Joey Logano and Marc Davis stole the show last Thursday at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) coming in first and second in an event that was held two nights prior to NASCAR's Nextel Cup race at PIR.

Both Logano and Davis are part of Joe Gibbs Racing's driver development program and both drivers are a mere 16 years of age.

Another Grand National West driver to keep an eye on this year is Modesto's Mike David who currently leads the points battle in the Grand National West Series. David was mentioned in a March 26 NASCAR press release, along with Jim Inglebright of Fairfield, as one of the "Five to Watch" for 2007.

David had an outside chance of winning the 2006 Grand National West Series title at the season finale at Altamont Motorsports Park last October until a tire problem relegated the driver from Modesto to a 13th position finish for the race and runner up in the season's points battle.

Bakersfield's Mike Duncan and Atascadero's David Mayhew are also in the top 10 standings. Mayhew held a strong lead at last Thursday's event at PIR until an engine problem forced Mayhew to drop out of the race.

Other Northern California drivers racing in the NASCAR Grand National West Series include Jack Sellers of Sacramento, Stan Silva, Jr. of Castroville, and Thomas Martin of Auburn.

In addition to 200 laps of Grand National racing, race fans at Altamont Motorsports Park will also be treated to a 100 lap battle between the NASCAR Whelen All-American Western Late Model weekly racers. Tracy's Ryan Philpott has won the first two Western Late Model races this season at AMP and his #52 "Red Rocket" looks like the car to beat in 2007.

AMP's American Limited Stock Car series will hit the 1/4-mile oval for a 30 lap event. A stunt bike exhibition is also planned.

Tickets for Saturday's events are $35 General Admission, $30 for Seniors and $20 for Youth. Six year and under are free. Gates open at 2pm with Qualifying set for 2:30. The Western Late Model and ALSC events start at 4:35. The Grand National West Series 200 Lap race is set to go off at 7pm. Source: Jeff Downey/Altamont Motorsports Park
