DUNCAN ARRIVES IN ALTAMONT READY TO ATTACKNASCAR WEST SERIES

![]() BAKERSFIELD, California -- NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series driver, Mike Duncan arrived in Northern California yesterday with a mission to accomplish. The two-time west champion is in the thick of a point battle to remain in the top ten, and he knows that things aren’t going to get any easier. Tonight’s Altamont 200 will be only the third west series race of the 2007 season, but the heat is already on the MB Duncan Motor Sports team. Duncan is currently tenth in points, but with the heavy competition - plus the mix of younger drivers with top-notch equipment – Duncan is certain that now is the time to be aggressive. “You have to be able find that fine line between not feeling desperate to get to the front in every race, and not being so methodical that you slip back a few spots every race”, Duncan says. The first, two races of this season have been complete opposites of each other: the season opener at Thunderhill Raceway, in Kyle, Texas gave Mike a well-earned third place finish and the pole. Last week, in Phoenix, Duncan become the all-time leader in poles, but then experienced a devastating accident and had to be taken to the hospital. Duncan says of the first month of racing so far, “Honestly, I can’t believe we’re so far back in the points…we know what we have to do…we just can’t get the rabbit’s foot that comes along with championship runs.” Look for Duncan to be aggressive tonight. Feeling that this race at Altamont Motorsport Park is the pivotal race in the season for his team, Duncan still remained philosophical about things by stating, “It’s a long season, and we’ve been doing this a while. We’re going in with the same approach we always do: to win. Yet, there are some very good teams in front of us, so our efforts tonight really have to be focused.” Duncan close the interview with a wry, yet candid view of himself when he said, “When you do something long enough, sometimes instinct and experience can overcome good luck and superior equipment.”
Mike Duncan was the NASCAR Grand National Division Rookie-of-the-Year in 2000. Behind the leadership of two-time Grand National Champ, Bill Sedgwick, Duncan and team won the 2004 – 2005 championships. Together, they compete full time on the Grand National West series.
