BLYTHE, California -- April 28, 2007 marked the opening event of the Lucas Oil West Modified Series. The west-coast touring series kicked off its 2007 schedule at the 3/8 mile I-10 Speedway in Blythe, Ca. Twenty-eight teams showed up to qualify for the 75 lap main event and after the fastest field the series has seen thus far Jason Patison found himself sitting in the #2 position. During the driver’s meeting fast qualifier Jimmy Dickerson rolled a 2, inverting himself and Jason for the start of the race. As the green flag dropped Jason and his number 80 machine jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. It was an exciting event, the leaders began negotiating lapped traffic by lap 10 as the rest of the field jockeyed back and forth for position. The race was slowed several times for caution flags, and once for a red flag, but each ensuing restart Jason jumped back out to a comfortable margin. In the end, Jason and his Lucas Oil Team lead all 75 laps and crossed the finish line a straightaway in front of second place finisher Jimmy Dickerson. Jason thanked his crew chief Steve Teets for setting up a great car, and his sponsor’s Lucas Oil, Torco fuels, K&N Filters, Idiaz Labels and No Mess Applicators for all of their support. Dickerson, Danny Gay, Mike Salm and Joey Mogar rounded out the top five.
The event will air June 2nd on the VERSUS network and the series makes its next stop May 19th at Havasu 95 Speedway. See Also .: News Index | E-mail to a Friend Article posted by RacingWest.com staff on 04/30/2007. http://www.racingwest.com
