TRAVIS BENNETT READY FOR 2007 SEASON

For Travis Bennett, the 2007 season couldn’t have started out any better. Capturing the 41st annual Apple Cup at Yakima Speedway just a few weeks ago, Bennett now looks forward to the start of the ASA Aero Exhaust Northwest Tour this weekend at South Sound Speedway for the first of eight events slated to run all over the Northwest.

“Winning the Apple Cup for the second year in a row was a lot of fun. Last year I was in a car fielded by Rick Suran and his crew, but this year I had my own late model that we built over the winter and it was good to see everything come together and have such a great car. Now I can’t wait to get started with the Tour,” said Bennett.

The Series will visit South Sound Speedway for the first time since 2002, but for Bennett, this will be a first.

“I’ve never raced at Tenino before but I’ve seen a lot of races run there and it looks like a fun track. My brother raced there in 94’ and 95’ and always ran good so I think it will be fun to return there and actually be racing myself,” Said Bennett.

The off-season seen many changes for the Northwest Tour, as it was known with Nascar’s presence. Announcing their final support of the series would be in 2006, several around the Northwest took action to make sure the Tour would continue in 2007. With the addition of the ASA and the support of the racers, car owners, track owners and promoters, the tour was able to continue.

“I think this is going to be a great series. I personally have not raced at South Sound, Stateline or Roseburg, so I’m looking forward to those. We have a talented group of racers here and each race will be important.”
