ALL LOCAL DIVISIONS RACE AT ALTAMONT MOTORSPORTS PARK ON SATURDAY
Date: 05/03/2007
Tracy, Calif., - After last weekend's NASCAR Grand National West event packed the grandstands at Altamont Motorsports Park (AMP), the track just outside of Tracy, Calif returns to its roots this Saturday night with all five local divisions hitting the 1/2 and 1/4-mile ovals as part of AMP's "Cinco de Mayo Celebration!".
The featured event will be 50 laps of NASCAR Whelen All-American Western Late Model racing and promises to be quite a show. With Tracy's Ryan Philpott and his #52 "Red Rocket" having won all three Western Late Model events this season, Danville's Tim Spurgeon, currently second in points, laid down the gauntlet last Saturday night.
"We are going to beat that #52." said Spurgeon, "If we do anything this year we are going to beat that #52"
The American Limited Stock Car series will be racing on the 1/4-mile oval for the third time this season on Saturday night. James Dulla won the first ALSC event on April 7th but it was Josh Whitfield who took the checkers last Saturday, besting a strong field of 14 ALSC cars.
Also hitting the 1/4-mile oval on Saturday night will be the Pro Truck series whose lone race this year was won by Ron Robeck.
Joining the Western Late Models on the 1/2-mile oval will be the Grand American Modified division. The familiar name of Ryan Mock and his "lucky" #13 racer won the series opening race on April 7th.
The Formula-4's will fill out the slate of the five local divisions racing at AMP on Saturday night.
The GT America and ASC Road Racing Stock Cars are currently being re-scheduled for another date.
As if the action on the track was not enough, race fans will also be entertained by a Mariachi Band in the stands while Mexican food will be the specialty on the concourse -- all part of Altamont Motorsports Park's "Cinco de Mayo Celebration!"
Qualifying starts at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday with opening ceremonies scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Ticket pricing is $15 General Admission , $10 for Seniors and $8 for youth.
