-- Ryan Foster, one of the Golden Gate Racing/Richard Childress Development drivers, is already back in the Midwest getting ready for the 4th and 5th races of the Grand National Tour. His week as been spent with Richard Childress, Kevin Harvick, Clint Boyer Tim McCreadie and other members of the RCR NEXTEL teams. The group has been relaxing by running Go Karts at several tracks, including Dale Earnhardt's personal playground.
Coming off 2 Top Ten finishes and tough tire luck at Altamont, the top seeded rookie and the team are looking forward to a whirlwind weekend with 2 races at 2 new tracks in 3 days. First stop is Elko Speedway for the Minnesota 150 on May 18th, 2007. Foster should settle right into the high banked 3/8th mile oval with ease as it is one of his favorite configurations. The track is one of only 60 short tracks across the country to be sanctioned by NASCAR and usually has several groves that allow for some great 2 and 3 wide racing.
Next stop is at Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA for the 5th race of the season on Sunday the 20th. The new track is a 7/8th mile tri-oval with 12-14 degree compound banking and is a Rusty Wallace Signature Track. Both Ryan Foster and the #31 Golden Gate Racing driver Tim McCreadie will be racing in this unique combo race which features both East and West series drivers competing in the same race. Championship points will be awarded to drivers based on their finish relative to other drivers in their series.
But the real thrill for Foster will be getting to race against RCR teammate Kevin Harvick who announced he would be running the Iowa race. Harvick is one of only two NASCAR drivers who have won two races in each NASCAR series. Foster will also be running with the Golden Gate Racing Team stable mate the #31 of Tim McCreadie. All under the close auspices of Richard Childress himself who has been chosen as Grand Marshal for the event.
Earlier this week the Golden Gate Racing Team announced a major sponsoring partnership with Golden Gate Petroleum and Bay Biodiesel. “We are very excited to have such a prestigious company approach us for a sponsorship and immediately sign to become a spotlight sponsor for our entire season.” said Jim Offenbach, team owner and head of Golden Gate Meat Company of San Francisco. “This is a perfect match: our organizations are both based in the San Francisco Bay Area, share a common name and both are committed on a corporate level to healthier, “green” products that are environmentally sound and safer for humans.”
"I’m pretty confident I can bring home a good finish for RCR, Golden Gate Racing and our new sponsor. We’ll just keep all 4 tires in good working order," Foster laughs, not like the last race at Altamont where bad luck landed Ryan with not just one flat tire, but three! "I have never had a flat tire in a car before it was a new experience and since I had 3 in one race I figure I have got all that out of way and can look forward to a lot of good luck these races."
With the adventure of 2 new tracks, the windfall of a new top sponsor, and having spent the week with the RCR team, getting to know them, and sharing information and tactics, Foster is primed to take the Midwest by storm.
Ryan recognizes the importance of his sponsors and would like to thank all of them for their support. Hills Meat Company, Airport Auto Brokers, Ace Auto Body, Economy Propane, FoodComm International, Roto-Rooter, Foster Well Drilling, IPS Global, Victory Chevrolet Cadillac, Chase Chevrolet, Larsen Racing Products, Corte Madera Tow and JW WebDesign and of course the latest additions, Golden Gate Petroleum and Bay Biodiesel
