ASA NORTHWEST TOUR ANNOUNCES NEW ENGINE RULESASA NORTHWEST TOUR
Source: ASA Northwest Tour /Media Relations
At the formation meeting of the present Northwest Tour all drivers stated that the cost needed to be lowered for them to be able stay racing. After race #1 a few weeks ago all drivers polled still felt that the cost needed to be lowered and the best way was via engine costs. The spec-headed motor is much less than the 9 to 1 engines that are presently being used.
The new head that has been approved is the Brodix head. This type of motor has become the industry standard around the racing world. Ron Bennett stated at the meeting announcing this change “this rule change is not designed to take cars from any other series it is only to lower the costs.”
All new spec-headed motors must also have a 390 tour legal carburetor and they will add TBA weight. “All this is a work in progress and changes will be made to assure the field remains equal” said Bennett. “The hope is that a majority of the cars are running spec motors by 2008 and if so the rule will change to mandatory if not 2009 for sure” Jim Mikelson stated.
As existing tour motors are ready for refreshing the cost of converting the engine is only slightly more.
As stated by many of the drivers it is great to be associated with a group that is trying to lower costs, listens to the drivers and are consistent. The ASA Northwest Tour official’s mission is to see that the tour survives and grows.
There will be a final rule formulation on the ASA Northwest Tours web page by mid-week. We thank everyone that has been a part of this change from engine builders to crew members. It again is a work in progress and changes will be made as deemed necessary to keep the field equal and not penalize the existing tour legal motors. The rule change is for engines only the car rules remain the same tour bodies only.
