PATISON BIDS FOR THIRD STRAIGHT MODIFIED WIN AT ORANGE SHOW SPEEDWAYSAN BERNARDINO -- Jason Patison said he has a fondness at Orange Show Speedway, where he won two races and finished second in the ASA Modified standings last year. He’ll feel even better about the ASA-sanctioned quarter-mile if he’s able to celebrate his return with a win in the 75-lap Lucas Oil ASA Modified Series main event on Saturday (June 9).

“I’ve always liked racing here,” Patison said Friday night during an open practice at the track at the National Orange Show Events Center. “The corners are tight, but these cars are light and they’ll rotate through (the apex of) the corner pretty well. The track is tight and it’s a little hard to pass. We can’t bump at all because we don’t have any fenders.”

Saturday’s race will be the third of nine for the touring series and in the first two, at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway in Blythe and Havasu 95 Speedway in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Patison hasn’t had to pass anyone. He’s started both events on the pole and won both in his Lucas Oil-sponsored entry to take the early points lead in the series.

There were 16 Modifieds on hand for the open practice and about 30 are expected on Saturday, when the BSR West Late Models, Lucas Oil Outlaw Figure 8s and Leno’s Rico Taco Legends Cars also will be in action beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The scale-model, Yamaha-powered Legends Cars will be racing for the second time in two days. Friday, they ran a crash-filled 30-lap main event won by Chad Schug, 20, of Oak Hills over older brother Ryan Schug, 26, of Hemet. Chad Schug inherited the lead on lap 19 after Bree Brewer and Darren Amidon got together on the back straightaway while contesting first place.
