MORIARITY WINS RAIN SHORTENED RACE AT SOUTH SOUND SPEEDWAYSOUTH SOUND SPEEDWAY
Source: South Sound Speedway
The Super Stocks saw the top 10 qualifiers separated by only a 1/4 (.25) of a second with the #11 of Tom Sweatman setting fast time with a 13.613. With Mike Obrist and Dan Rhodes starting on the front row and Sweatman starting 6th with the invert, it looked like we were in for a good afternoon of racing. On the start of the 100-lap Super Stock main event, Rhodes’s shifter broke going into turn one causing cars to scatter to avoid him. Several cars had to pit with damage and returned to the back of the lineup leaving Obrist and Sweatman on the front row for the restart. Obrist lead the first three laps with heavy pressure from Sweatman. On lap four, Sweatman went to the outside and passed Obrist on the backstretch, but when they reached turn three, they tangled, and Sweatman spun. Obrist and Sweatman were both sent to the rear giving the lead to the #98 of Tom Moriarity. Charging from the rear, it only took Sweatman 33 laps to catch Moriarity and settle into second place. Moriarity and Sweatman raced nose to tail until the yellow came out on lap 53 due to rain. With the race being past the halfway point, it was called due to the rain with Moriarity winning his first Super Stock race of the season at the West Coast’s fastest 3/8’s mile paved oval. Rounding out their top five were runner up Sweatman, Jared Vorse, Kelly Mann and Rod Schultz, SR. The AMES Mini Cup Future Stars saw #15 Tyler Shipman setting fast time with a 17.711 and go on to win his second main event of the season. Rounding out their top five included runner up Kayla Roberts, Andy Benefield, Caleb McGowen, and Nik Larson. The AMES Mini Cup Open Division saw the #1 of Brooke Lefor set fast time with a 16.609 and go on to win her first main event of the season. Rounding out their top five included runner up Aaron Stanley, Matt Benefield, Buddy Benefield, and Justin Rogers. The Northwest Pro 4 Trucks saw the #17 of Mike Wiley set fast time with a new track record of 15.973. In the first of three races being held at South Sound Speedway this season, their 30-lap main event saw the #22 of Jason Majors taking the checkered flag for his first win of the season. Rounding out their top five included runner up Bart Hector, Wiley, Pete Brady and Jeff Hector. The FSCRA/Super 4’s saw the #5 of Wayne Dillon set fast time with a 14.663 and go on to win their main event. Rounding out their top five included runner up Jerry Koepping, Kevin Koepke, Bob Quarterman, and Clint Kieffer.
