THE “ICE MANN” WINS THE WAYNE MILLER MEMORIAL PEPSI 100 AT SOUTH SOUND SPEEDWAYROCHESTER, Washington -- Once again, early afternoon rain could not dampen the tribute to Wayne Miller.

The June 23, 2007 Super Stock Wayne Miller Memorial Pepsi 100 saw current points leader #11 of Tom Sweatman set fast time with a 13.672. The trophy dash winner was the #1 of Rod Schultz, JR.

Last year’s Super Stock Champion, the #99 of Dan Rhodes brought the field around for the green flag start and led the first eight laps until Schultz, JR. moved past him on the inside to take the lead. The #9 of Kelly Mann, with Sweatman glued to his back bumper took the lead away from Schultz, JR. on lap 14 and the race was on between Mann and Sweatman. Some of Mann’s fellow racers refer to him as the “Ice Mann” because he is so cool, calm and collected on the racetrack. For the next 86 laps, Mann showed that Saturday night’s race was no different with heavy pressure from Sweatman rooting all over his back bumper. The two South Sound Speedway drivers had the crowd on the edge of their seats, with Mann taking his first win of the season at the West Coast’s fastest 3/8’s mile paved oval. Rounding out their top five included runner up Sweatman, Schultz, JR. Tom Moriarity and AJ Fugitt. Super Stock race results are unofficial until Tuesday.

The Delta Camshaft Mini Stocks saw current points leader the #77 of Bill Hansel set fast time with a 16.908. Winning Saturday night’s trophy dash was the #56 of Dennis Shaffer. Finishing first, second and third in heat 1 respectively were the # 82 of Rob Windham, the #14 of Reggie Gill, and Hansel. Finishing first, second and third in heat 2 respectively were the #32 of Richard Smith, the #19 of Craig Huffman, and the #11 of Freeman Pruitt.

The 25-lap Main event for the Delta Camshaft Mini Stocks saw Shaffer win his first mini stock main event of the season driving an AMC Pacer against a field of Mustangs. Rounding out their top five included runner up Devin Matthews, Smith, Huffman, and Larry Williams.

The Hinkle Homes Pure Stocks saw the #10 of Jake Haider set fast time with a 16.640. Winning their trophy dash was the #27 of Brian Wilson. Finishing first, second and third respectively in their heat race was the #28 of Ron Mason, Wilson and the #15 of Scott Johnson.

Their 25-lap main event for the Hinkle Homes Pure Stocks saw the current point’s leader of Johnson win his fourth main event of the season. Rounding out their top five included runner up Rick Casebolt, Dan Walker, Haider, and Jay Henderson.

The Northwest Sprintcar Racing Association saw the #76 of Andy Alberding set a new track record with an 11.798. Their dash 1 winner was the #27 of Ralph Deaver and the dash 2 winner was the #98 of Matt Hein. Finishing first, second and third respectively in heat 1 were the #3 of Robert Beck, the #99 of Rick Brown, and the #25 of Monte Zema, JR. Finishing first, second and third in heat 2 respectively were the #13 of Mike Basher, the #51 of Jake Mann, and A. Alberding.

The Northwest Sprintcar Racing Association 35-lap main event winner was Mann. Rounding out their top five included runner up Beck, Deaver, Hein, and Brown.

Racing returns to South Sound Speedway on Saturday, June 30, 2007 with the Limited Late Models, WMRA, Vintage Modifieds, and Street Stocks.
