SUPER LATE MODELS, TRAIN RACE AND WOMEN’S DEMOLITION DERBY HIGHLIGHT SATURDAY’S PIPE TRADES NIGHT AT IRWINDALE SPEEDWAYIRWINDALE, California – A unique evening of racing is scheduled this Saturday (June 30) at Irwindale Speedway during Southern California Pipe Trades HVAC Night. The schedule includes races in the ACDelco Super Late Model, BG Products Pure Stocks and Justice Brothers Mini Stocks divisions as well as a Train race and a women only Demolition Derby.

Rookie Travis Thirkettle of Newhall has been a model of consistency during the season’s first nine ACDelco Super Late Model division races having finished in the top-five in six races, good enough to lead the division with 398 points. However, Thirkettle’s comfortable lead has diminished as a result of Rip Michels impressive six-race consecutive win streak. Michels of San Fernando is the Speedway’s all-time race winner and notched a milestone 50th victory in his last race on June 16, pulling him within 16 points of Thirkettle.

Norwalk’s Ron Davis maintains a ten point lead over Jeff Elder of Redlands in the BG Products Pure Stock division points battle. Elder narrowed the gap with a victory in the last race on June 2.

Defending Justice Brothers Mini Stock champion Tyler Rogers of Riverside leads the division points battle thanks to three victories and a runner-up finish in his first six races. Kevin Bernhardt (Fontana) scored a win in his last division race on June 9, moving him within 22 points of Rogers.

Fans attending the event will also be entertained by a women only Demolition Derby and a Train race featuring teams of three cars connected together competing on the Speedway’s Figure 8 course. The front car includes a driver responsible for controlling the throttle and steering, the middle car is neutral while the driver in the rear car controls the brakes. Any car breaking loose will cause the team to be disqualified.

NEXT EVENT: Wednesday, July 4th Irwindale Speedway will host the NASCAR Grand National West Series King Taco 200 and Auto Club Late Model Firecracker 100 races followed by a spectacular Independence Day fireworks show. It will also be Family Night with kids 12 years of age and under admitted for free.

Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. for both events. The King Taco fan appreciation autograph session will take place on the track with the drivers, crew members and race cars at 5:45 p.m. The first race will start at 7 p.m.

Tickets for all Irwindale Speedway events are available for purchase at the Speedway ticket office, by calling (626) 358-1100 and online at www.irwindalespeedway.com. Auto Club of Southern California members receive a 10% discount off of the purchase of up to four (4) adult general admission tickets for the events when they show their AAA membership card.
