![]() MADERA, California --As the 2007 SRL season begins to unfold, Madera Speedway will play host to a festive "Independence Day" racing weekend. This is the track where even veteran drivers have to arrive with their "A game", and the younger drivers look to just hang on and stay close to the pack. One of the young guns in the SRL series is Brennan Newberry, the driver of the Flashco # 09 Monte Carlo, and after two races under his belt the effervescent and confident is chomping at the bit. "Man, I can't wait to get going again - it's been a while since our last race, and Mike (Crew Chief Harvick) and my dad have been really working to get us prepared", Brennan says, as he prepares for his practice session. Thursday was a special day for the NTS Motorsports team, as they unveiled their new hauler in front of the employees at Flashco, Inc. the Bakersfield-based company that proudly sponsors the talented Newberry. Present at the unveiling was Marion Collins, iconic founder of the fabled Mesa Marin Raceway. As Flashco will be the title sponsor for the SRL series when it comes to Kern County's new track, Mr. Collins was on hand to promote both the series and Newberry. During an interview with Realfast.TV, Collins stayed true to his mentoring reputation when he commented on Brennan by saying "This young man represents all the great reasons people love racing - he's a nice young man, and he's going to do well in this series." Tonight's race will pit Newberry and other younger drivers against some of the giants of western racing, as names like Byrd, Petitt and Holtz will give every driver on the track all they can handle, and then some. Upon being asked about the stiff competition for tonight's race, Newberry responded with the experience of a sage veteran: " I can't express how fortunate I feel to be racing against these great drivers, and I hope I can learn from them every time out."
The SRL is one of the premier stock car racing series in the country. The series has patterned itself after NASCAR’S Elite Series with beautifully prepared cars and support vehicles, and identifiable team uniforms. This seventh season looks to break all attendance records, attracting over 70 seasoned drivers from all over California and the southwestern states. Local and regional stock car fans can also cheer for new stars that will someday drive the machines of NASCAR. The series is a training ground, not only for drivers but for crew chiefs, mechanics and engineers. This series is great for fans who love door to door racing on some of the fastest oval tracks in the West.
