DAN FREDRICKSON WINS ASA RACE AT GRUNDY COUNTY SPEEDWAYMORRIS, Illinois – Dan Fredrickson of Lakeville, Minnesota won the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour George Appleton Memorial/Echo Power Blower 100 in front of a full-house crowd at the Grundy County Speedway.

John Nutley (Crestwood, IL) took the lead from the front row at the drop of the green flag Friday the thirteenth to lead the first 57 laps of the 100-lap event. Under Nutley’s reign, the field fell under caution four times. On lap15 visiting NASCAR driver Johnny Sauter (Necedah, WI) was working hard on Bryan Roach (Minneapolis, MN) for position and the battle resulted in Roach spinning around in turn one. Upon restarting, Collin Bamke (Slinger, WI) has a shock break and he spun around solo at the start/finish line, drawing the yellow flag again. Travis Sauter (Necedah, WI) experienced a trailing arm break on lap 24 which caused his car to smoke extensively from the rear end and he stopped on the track. Nutley’s bid for the win ended on lap 57 when Kyle Calmes (Freedom, WI) spun around in turn 3.

When the field resumed racing, Nathan Haseleu (Marshall, WI) dominated the restart and pulled out for the lead as Nutley fell back through the field. Haseleu had a short green flag run of six laps before the final caution of the night came for the spinning car of visiting NASCAR driver Jeff Green (Owensboro, KY) in turn three. Haseleu lead until lap 68 when Echo “blow your competition away” fast-time qualifier Fredrickson dove under Haseleu to take the point. Fredrickson protected the lead, as Eddie Hoffman came up fast behind Haseleu, passing for second on lap 86. Haseleu and Hoffman swapped spots on lap 99 and Haseleu made one last look at the lead but it was too late.

“The car was good on shorter runs but it was hard to keep up with it when the tires got hot. It’s just how racing can be here – it’s tough, but what an enthusiastic crowd to race in front of – makes it fun,” stated third-place finished Eddie Hoffman (Wheaton, IL). Hoffman was later disqualified in post-race technical inspection for the unauthorized use of a carburetor spacer nonconforming to ASA Midwest Tour rules.

“I ran hard and it was tough,” Haseleu said from the podium, “the guys racing out here are the best in the Midwest and I had a good car, but so did Dan and Eddie.”

Fredrickson was ecstatic from Victory Lane, saying, “It was tough to win this race. The Appleton Memorial is such a prestigious event and I always wanted to be down here (in Victory Lane). It was awesome passing Eddie Hoffman. I don’t know how the crowd liked that. George Appleton and his family have contributed so much to racing and made a difference for the racers and it feels great to win this race for him.”

Fredrickson collected his second win of the season in just a 10 day period, and third podium finish in just as many days in the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment jam-packed July schedule. Fredrickson won the Independence Day Kwik Trip 100 at WI LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway Tuesday July 3 and finished second in the July Spectacular 100 at MN I-94 raceway Saturday July 7. Dan won an Echo chainsaw for his efforts at Grundy and a lucky fan won an Echo BP-251 handheld blower by random ticket stub drawing.

Dan Fredrickson Profile
For a racer under the age of thirty, Dan is quite the veteran with an impressive resume. In 2000, he entered the final seven races at the Elko Speedway and won the last five of them. In 2001, he started traveling and won Rookie of the Year honors in the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Series Midwest division with four Bud Pole awards, ten top-five, and four top-three finishes. In 2002, he moved on to the American Speed Association National Tour and recorded twelve top-five, and three podium finishes and also set the track record at the Wisconsin International Raceway. In 2003, Dan returned to Elko Speedway to top the competition, earning the Late Model Championship with 12 pole awards and six wins, including the Featherlite Ultimate Challenge.

Fredrickson entered three Midwest AllStar Racing Series events in 2004 and won every one of them, including the event at the legendary Milwaukee Mile. He won twelve Super Late Model events overall during the season including four ASA Minnesota Late Model Challenge Series races, good for the Series championship and was voted Minnesota Driver of the Year.

In 2006 Dan had a breakout year, winning three of the final six NASCAR AutoZone Elite Series Midwest races, setting the track record at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway, finishing third in the Toyota All Star Showdown, winning Powerade Racer of the Year, and finishing runner-up to the Championship by a margin of two points.
