Since the opening green flag on March 3rd at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway, this year’s ASA STC has been anything but boring. Victor Pfluger in the #80 Parker Farms Dodge, current Championship Point’s leader, has set the fastest qualifying time in four races and has won twice; at Tucson Raceway Park and Orange Show Speedway. Right on his heels, second in points, is the two-time ASA STC champion Darren Young in the #18 United Nissan Chevy S-10 with three victories back-to-back-to-back at Tucson Raceway Park, Firebird Int’l Raceway and California Speedway. Going into the last race at Orange Show, there was just one point separating the leaders. The season has seen five different winners in eight races with oval track qualifying times of all trucks in the field being separated by 7/10 of a second. This clearly presents the competition parities with the Van Gordon Racing Engines and Mallory / ACCEL ignition systems. “It’s definitely a year for the record-books,” commented Rutherford. “All but a few of our races have been won in the last few laps, which show just how seasoned and experienced our drivers are in the series. I can’t wait to see who wins the shoot-out as we finish our last five races,” he laughed. The ASA STC is the largest traveling series on the west coast with over 65 trucks on its roster and runs the most exciting nine tracks in the California, Arizona and Nevada area. For drivers that are truly serious about moving up in the ranks, ASA STC is the place to learn. This diversity in circle track experience was exemplified recently when Randal King, ASA STC 2006 Rookie of the Year, climbed into a Super Late Model at Tucson for the first time; starting dead last in the field; only to move immediately up through a large field to lead the race half way through the event, finishing third. “Our drivers instinctively know how to race when they step into other vehicles,” says Jeff Austine, ASA STC head tech official. “The experience that they get in this series is unmatched anywhere in the country.” The show-down at Irwindale Speedway will see 25 hard-charging drivers take the track on this incredibly fast venue. Speeds on this three-groove track could reach 115 mph, which makes for exciting, edge of your seat racing sometimes seeing the Speed Trucks four abreast. You won’t want to miss this one! Spectator gates open at 5:00 PM and racing at 7:00 PM. - www.irwindalespeedway.com The Speed Truck Challenge travels the Southwest competing at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway, Tucson Raceway Park, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Orange Show Speedway, Havasu 95 Speedway, Irwindale Speedway, Firebird International Raceway, California Speedway and has raced numerous events at Phoenix International Raceway and Mesa Marin Raceway.
