NORTHWEST MODIFIED NATIONALS SET FOR GRAYS HARBOR RACEWAYELMA, Washington -- The Eight Annual “Ship Wreck Beads” Northwest Modified Nationals are set for this Friday and Saturday night at the at the three/eights mile clay oval in Elma. Last year over sixty of the of the best “Modified” drivers were on hand, with drivers from Canada, Washington, Oregon, California Arizona and Kansas. The two day affair is one of the premier “Modified” races west of the Mississippi river.

Thirty five drivers have already pre-registered for the two day affair, including three former champions of the event. The inaugural winner Gus Cooper of Creswell, Oregon, a pair of Medford, Oregon drivers, Brian Poppa, winner in 2001 and the only driver to win consecutive championships, Jon DeBenedetti who turned the trick in 2004 and 2005.

No less than three former Grays Harbor champions are in the field, three time champion Scott Miller of Shelton ,2000, 2004 and 2005, Craig Moore of Seabeck, 2001, and defending Grays Harbor Raceway and Yakima champion Blair Shoemaker with plans on keeping the championship at Grays Harbor Raceway.

Other drivers that have already pre-registered include two Canadian IMCA dirt and pavement champions, Lawrence O’Conner of Port Hardy, British Columbia and Jason Beaulieu from Campbell River. Josh Muller of Elma, second in the points standings at Grays Harbor along with Greg Dineen of Aberdeen, Scott Dorie of St Helens, Oregon, a five time feature winner at Grays Harbor, Williamette Speedway champion Craig Hansen from Albany and former Cottage Grove champion Jason Kocks of Eugene. Many time California Modified champion Randy McDaniel and his son Ryan from Marysville will be on hand attempting to take the top prize back to California.

After a number of years of a three day format, this year it is returning to the former two day format with a later start on Friday night allowing more drivers time to get here.

The action kicks off on Friday night with qualifying heat races and the $750.00 twenty-lap Pete Muller Trucking race of champions.

Saturday night will feature trophy dashes to determine the front six rows in the forty-lap feature race, a C-Main and B-Main and two last chance races as driver attempt to get into the twenty four car forty-lap feature race and a chance of the top money of $4,000.00 for first, $2,500.00 for second and $1,800. for third and down to $300.00 for just starting the A-Main.

Gates will open at 5:00 P.M. with racing around 8:00 P.M. on both nights with racing around 8:00 P.M.on Friday night and 7:00 P.M. on Saturday.

Admission prices are, Friday night, Adults $10.00 each, Juniors age 6-14 $5.00 each, Premium seats $15.00 and family packs, two adults and four juniors $25.00, Saturday night, Adults $15.00 each, Juniors $10.00 each, Premium seats $22.00 and Family packs $35.00####
