Source: Tim McDougald
![]() PORT ANGELES, Washington --T he Limited Late Model Racing Series (LLMRS) made it’s first of two stops at Port Angeles Speedway on Saturday July 28th. The series is due back on September 15th to finish out their season on the newly paved oval. This was the 5th race for them. Their next race will be in Spokane on August 25th. Unfortunately for Steve Woods, before his night even got started he had oil pressure and over heating problems and was unable to participate but did stick around to cheer on the rest of the group. Things didn’t look good for John Boyatt early in the night after breaking an axle but Tim McDougald and his team were able to let the Boyatt team borrow one and continue on with their night of racing. It was an important night to Boyatt that was dedicated to his Grandfather who recently passed away. He even led a Memorial lap in his Grandfather’s honor. Tim McDougald set the fast time for the series with a 15.794. During the trophy dash, McDougald twisted his axle and was done for the night. The A dash was won by Boyatt and the B dash was won by Jim Jussila. John Pokorny took the early lead in the heat race. On lap 4, Bob Hays and Boyatt got together in turn three, sending them both to the back. Jussila and Chris Schlaht were now behind Pokorny. On the restart Jussila and Schlaht got together. Schlaht was sent to the back and Jussila had to take his car in. The entire back of the car was hanging off and would have been a danger to the other drivers. Martin Stanwood had a mechical problem and was pushed off the track on lap8. John Boyatt went on to win the heat race followed by Schlaht, Pokorny, Hayes and Bryan Payne.
The main event was set for 50 laps with Bob Hays and Chris Schlaht on the front row. A big thanks went out to the McDougald team for helping Jussila and his crew get their car all back together. The car started at the back but wouldn’t stay there long. Schlaht took the early lead but John Boyatt took over on lap 9. Boyatt and Schlaht stayed out front of the pack and began lapping the field. On lap 45 Schlaht blew up leaving Boyatt alone on the lead lap. Boyatt won the main event with Jussila in second and Martin Stanwood in third. Bob Hays was fourth and Bryan Payne was fifth.
