WASHINGTON 500 THIS WEEKEND AT EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY
Date: 07/31/2007
![]() The Wired X Energy Drink 150 presented by Haggen Food & Top Food looms large on Saturday August 4th. The NASCAR Whelen All American Series Speedway Chevrolet Super Stocks are in a race for not only the much-coveted NASCAR Track Championship but also the first ever Washington State NASCAR Championship. This feature 150 lap premiere event on the Northwest's biggest race track (.646 mile oval) will be an exciting turn for the competitors as they will be featured just before the NAPA 300 presented by Basalite NASCAR Grand National race. Last weeks winner, Kelly Mann, represented the fifth different winner so far this season.
Points leader and two-time champion John Zaretzke after tearing through 5 straight wins earlier this season has struggled as of late. Last weeks 14th place finish allowed the rest of the field to "catch up" some. Two-time Defending Champion Shane Harding took over second place and now looms just 42 points from Zaretzke with Naima Lang 48 points behind and Roger Habich 52 behind. In fact only 60 points separate the top six! Another great battle is brewing for Rookie of the Year honors with brothers Mike & Jeff Holden not only in the top ten in points but just 2 points apart! After a disappointing run last time out another Rookie Contender Jeff Knight looks to improve his position by overhauling his set up for the race this Saturday.
In the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Les Schwab Tires Division, Jill Lang brings in her Chevrolet, as points leader, for the first ever Bomber points race on the big 5/8's oval. After her first start in a Super Stock last week on the big track, and practice scheduled for this Thursday, she should be more than ready to race her way to what may be her first ever championship. So far this season she has racked up three heat race wins and two main event wins. Her husband, Naima Lang, currently third in points in the Speedway Chevrolet Super Stock Division, was the 2004 NASCAR Bomber Champion. Again the point's battle in the division is VERY close with just 40 points separating the top ten. Darrel Lutovsky is just 3 points behind Lang and looking for his first main event win of the season.
