BAMMER AND BOLIN – MAKING NAMES FOR THEMSELVES IN THE SRL

WILTON, California -- The SRL boasts some of the best late model drivers in the West and two who have been working their way up the SRL points standings hail from east and west of the Central Valley. Tracy Bolin, driver of the 02 Chevrolet, is from Valley Springs, CA in the Sierra Foothills, while the driver of the 18 Chevrolet, Todd Bammer, resides in the East Bay area town of Pleasanton, CA. Both grew up race fans who couldn’t handle just watching their heroes at the track. But while Bammer started young in quarter midgets, Bolin picked a different entry point into the sport.

Tracy and his family were always huge Dale Earnhardt fans. He grew up watching Winston Cup racing and Earnhardt was definitely his biggest inspiration in racing. For Bolin, racing was always something he wanted to try himself. So while attending a weekly race at Stockton 99 Speedway, Bolin spotted a pure stock division car for sale and decided to jump in.

With no formal instruction, Tracy learned how to drive grinding it out in the Pure Stock division in Stockton. Bolin said, “I have just learned by trail and error and getting as much seat time as I can get on the track.” If he had any sort of training for racing it was racing down the back dirt roads where he grew up in Arizona. A few ended up with wrecks but it taught him how to keep it on the wheels.

So after a seven plus years of racing, who does Bolin admire now? Bolin quipped, “Any driver who gets paid to do what they love and not pay to do it!” Bolin looks forward to getting his first SRL victory this year and with a bit more luck, he might have had a couple already this year. Currently 4th in SRL points, Tracy also has eyes on being this year's SRL Champion. “We have had a lot better race car this year than in the past, but still seem to be shadowed by a cloud of bad luck that has not allowed us to finish where we could have”, said Bolin. So what is Tracy’s greatest racing achievement? He hopes to get back to us on that at the end of the SRL season!

Tracy loves spending his time away from the track with his kids. His son Tyler races motocross and he enjoys spending time traveling to support him. Bolin also has two daughters, Kaitlyn and CoCo, who are also involved in sports as well as dance. The Bolin family enjoys camping and riding their ATVs in the sand dunes when they can getaway for a weekend. And when Tracy isn’t busy with racing and his family, he makes his living as a building contractor.

As we move west toward the SF Bay Area, we find rookie of the year points leader Todd Bammer. Todd grew up watching races at the San Jose Fairgrounds, especially enjoying watching the drivers who drove the cars his father owned such as Bobby Davis Jr. Having grown up always around a race track, Bammer was inspired to get into racing at a very young age. At 10 years old he began racing quarter midgets and he has been hooked ever sense. Bammer says the driver he admires most in racing is Jac Haudenschild, who Todd watched driving sprint cars back when he was twelve years old. He admired Haudenschild’s hard charging, all out, no letting up style of driving.

One of Todd’s greatest achievements so far in his racing career was his Late Model Track Championship at Altamont speedway in 2004. Bammer is having a strong rookie SRL season not only leading the rookie points, but also finding himself sixth in overall driver points. He gives his success this year a modest rating of being “fairly happy”. For a short term goal Bammer of course wants to hold on and win the rookie of the year award. Beyond that he looks forward to continuing racing in the very competitive SRL.

Outside of racing, Todd loves spending time chasing after his daughters as he follows them in their various sports activities including Soccer and Swimming. Bammer spends the majority of his time running Moeller Brothers Body Shop.
