NASCAR CHAMPION, RANDY LAJOIE SHOWS OFF DRIVING TALENT AT LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY; ALLEN TAKES IMPRESSIVE WIN GREEN TO CHECKERED

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- To say that the ASA Speed Truck Challenge race being taped for showing on the Outdoor Channel from Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s “Bullring” “Wild Wednesday” evening was exciting; would truly be an understatement. With a record crowd in attendance, they were certainly not disappointed in the driving show that was put on by two-time Busch Grand National Champion, Randy LaJoie. LaJoie, a superior driver that has a long list of winning venues on his resume, including three wins at the Daytona 300; climbed into the #74 United Racing Chevy S-10 having never driven a Speed Truck or racing on the super-fast 3/8-mile “Bullring” oval. Starting in the sixth position after an excellent qualifying run, LaJoie told this writer, “I want to finish at least in the top five tonight.” Throughout the very hot and grueling 100-lap showdown, he was battled by front runners: #80 Victor Pfluger, #35 Randel King, #3 rookie Bear Rzesnowiecky, #07 rookie Austin Murphy, #18 two-time ASA STC Champion Darren Young and #22 Andy Allen, who set the fastest qualifying time of the evening, won the trophy dash and started on the pole.

Although constantly pressured by #18 Young, the #22 Allen kept his cool and continued to pull out into a good lead on the pack, only to have it taken away by a number of cautions on the night. “I had a great truck tonight,” said a happy and soft-spoken Allen, “and I just wish we wouldn’t have had so many cautions. I think I really could have put some distance on my competitors,” he exclaimed. Allen never lost the lead throughout the entire race, which proved that he is another strong competitor in this very competitive ASA Speed Truck Challenge series driver field, which now has had five different winners in ten starts.

“I’m very proud of our drivers tonight,” said ASA STC president, Jay Rutherford. “Despite the extra pressure on them having our guest driver, Randy LaJoie with us, driving on a Wednesday and being an extremely fast track, they ran a great race for themselves and an even better one for the fans.” There was additional excitement at the track for the evening as NHRA 14-time National Champion, John Force was present and signing autographs. “We love having Jay’s truck series here on our special Wednesday night race. They always bring us a super field of quality, experienced drivers that give our fans a headliner event worth talking about the next day,” said Mike Stafford, Bullring Manager of Competition.

LaJoie kept his prerace prediction and then some as he patiently waited until with less than twenty laps to go, #3 Rzesnowiecky bumped his teammate #18 Young out of the second position and almost took out the leader, #22 Allen. LaJoie worked his way into the third spot and on the final lap, nosed out Young to take second. “It was just a delight to race with these “kids”,” said LaJoie. “Jay has an excellent series here and now I know all the great stuff I’ve heard is true about his drivers and the series,” concluded LaJoie.

The finishing positions of this exciting race will make the championship point’s race even tighter.
