HUDDLESTON HICK-UPS, MEIER MOVES IN ON CHAMPIONSHIP
IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY LATE MODELS
Date: 08/22/2007
IRWINDALE, California – High Point Racing had an impressive finish on Saturday in the Late Model division at Irwindale Speedway. After setting the top qualifying speed, Rookie Scott Jenkins started third in his Justice Brothers, EFI Ford Fusion. With his teammate Chris Carmody on the outside of the front row, Jenkins was careful not to push the leaders three-wide. Chasing Nick Joanides for the lead, Jenkins and Carmody broke away from the rest of the field. In a surprising caution free event it looked like Jenkins would be able to capitalize on his second row starting position and win his first stock car main event. However, lapped traffic created a challenge and he was passed by the #31 of Dan Digiacomo. Jenkins finished third with Carmody behind him. After moving to North Carolina to start college earlier in the week, Jace Meier returned to defend his run at Rookie of the Year honors. With his car owner and 2005 Auto Club Late Model Champion, Tim Huddleston leading the points, Meier didn’t expect he’d be leaving the night tied for the series championship. However, when a shock absorber pin broke loose during a warm-up lap in qualifying, an ill-handling racecar left Huddleston starting in the back of the pack at race time. The absence of cautions hurt Huddleston who was able to work his way forward to finish in seventeenth. He ran the second fastest lap of the race despite having to work his way through traffic. It was the second race in a row where three of the High Point Racing cars finished in the top five. With three races left in the season, Huddleston and Meier are currently tied for the championship. Huddleston officially leads because he has won two races this season. Fans in attendance were given an exclusive announcement regarding an addition of a fifth car to the High Point Racing team starting September first. Look for details to be released later this week.
