INDUSTRY SPEEDWAY
Source: Tim Kennedy
INDUSTRY, California Ryan Fisher enjoyed his most successful night of the season since he returned from racing 500-cc speedway cycles in England. The 23-year old American Motorcyclist Assn. Speedway Cycle rider from Bloomington started from the second slot Wednesday and won his second Division 1 feature in the last three weeks. There were 510 racing enthusiasts present at Industry Speedway in the Industry Hills Expo Center Grand Arena to watch Fisher win five of his six 4-lap races. Fisher led all four laps of the feature and won by ten-yards over Nate Perkins. Buck Blair fought for the lead evenly with Fisher on the first lap until the third turn when they bumped, causing Blair to drift up the track and fall to third, where he finished. The race had to be restarted following the first attempt to log a lap after Jimmy Fishback fell into the second turn cushioned wall, causing a red flag stoppage. He was uninjured, but the referee excluded him per AMA rules that eliminate riders who cause a red flag during a feature. Fisher won two of his three heat races, the first of two four-rider semi-final races that advanced the first two finishers in each semi-final to the main event. In race 18 of the 39-race evening, Fisher led every lap of the 4-lap, four rider "Last Man Out Challenge" in which the last rider after each of the first two laps is eliminated. The final two riders race two consecutive laps and the winner takes all the money (usually in the $200 to $300 range) posted by several fans. Ricky Wells, 16, outran 2006 track champion and current point leader Charlie Venegas in the D-1 consolation race. Phil Harmatiuk a 16-year old from Garden Grove, led all four laps for his first D-2 500-cc main event victory. Doug Geist, from Elk Grove, won the D-3 (rookies) 500-cc main on his first visit to Industry Speedway. Jason Ramirez took the Youth D-1 250-cc main event trophy. Richard Crocker, a 16-year old from Anaheim, won the four-rider Youth D-2 trophy. Bryson Galvin, 6, led every lap of the three-rider pee-wee main on 50-cc cycles.
AMA Speedway Cycle racing at Industry Speedway will continue in its fourth
year (and second year under current promoters American Speedway Coalition) for
the next three Wednesday nights. The September 12 final race has been dubbed
track championship night. For more information about upcoming events and photos
