![]() MONROE, Washington -- Fair time surrounds the racetrack for the next nine days and Evergreen Speedway shows off the marquee entertainment at the Evergreen State Fair. The NASCAR Whelen All American Series continued with the Speedway Chevrolet Super Stocks and Les Schwab Tires Bombers racing on Figure Eight Nationals Night. Rain fell late but the Super Stocks were able to race their full fifty laps on the "Almost Too Tough to Tame" 3/8's oval. Although the rain fell for the Bombers and Figure Eights, it also let up enough for some drying during each of their main events.
Shane Harding once again dominated winning his fourth race this season and his third in a row. Lex Johnson finished second and Naima Lang third rounding out the podium. Shane gathered a few more points on current leader John Zaretzke but acknowledged that all he can do now, considering his deficit, is win all the rest of the races and see how it goes. Zaretzke finished fourth and Jeff Knight was stellar with a fifth place.
Bombers are mired in a point's battle Royale as once again the points lead was exchanged more than once during the night. Darrel Lutovsky came into the night with a slim one-point advantage, was tied after heat races, and lost the lead by just a point or two by the time the main was over. The first try at a green flag left the field decimated, after Tim Wiedner spun coming to the green flag from the pole position and havoc ensued. Jill Lang's championship run was given a damaging blow as she was caught up in the front stretch melee. Craig Rowalt also was taken to the pits on a hook. Lane Sundholm hung on to finish ahead of Lutovsky and hoped that it was enough to take back the points lead. Jim Foti ran second to defending champion Duane Shosboek who easily handled the wet conditions to win. Travis Blackwood also made gains with a third place run.
The Figure Eight Nationals was full of excitement and thrills as the 100-lap event run since 1984 was once again spectacular. The Battle Wagon of Steve Peters took the lead from his second place start and led a major part of the way. Transmission problems relegated him to a fight for the podium as "The Cowboy" John Carlson after several close calls and actual hits at the intersection finally won the Figure Eight Nationals. This first win of the season for John meant a lot to him. "The Bobcat" Jim Downey ran a really smart second place and the two time winner of the Nationals "Mr. Excitement" Steve Cox rounded out the top three.
