AN EXTREMELY TIGHT POINTS RACE COMES TO IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY FOR THE ASA SPEED TRUCK CHALLENGE

ASA Speed Truck Challenge has been a series that has always promoted the driver abilities behind the wheel instead of the truck’s mechanical ability. With an extremely rigid rule book, Rutherford has demanded from his race teams that their trucks be as close to the same as possible. Once this is accomplished, you combine the truck parity with a racing schedule that rivals NASCAR, racing on eight different tracks to include oval and road course venues strategically placed in the schedule; and you end up with a series that pushes its drivers to improve every race or they get left behind. “This is why so many of our drivers end up climbing the ranks in this competitive sport, while others can’t understand why they don’t have the same successes,” says Rutherford. The 2007 Championship Point’s race is currently being held by a very slim margin by a previous two-time ASA STC champion Darren Young, in the #18 United Nissan Chevy S-10, but right on his heals is the talented Victor Pfluger in the #80 Parker Farms Dodge Dakota, who has held the points lead for most of the season. “If fans are looking for a shootout, this is the one to watch,” said head technical official, Jeff Austine. “Looks like it may come down to the very last race.” This shootout not only is great for the fans, but helps the ASA STC advertising sponsors. This season has seen companies like E-3 Spark Plugs, the Joie of Seating, and TORCO racing fuels come on board with the series to reap the benefits of a tight finish. “With most of the 2007 races being taped for showing on the OUTDOOR CHANNEL in the 4th quarter of 2007, these sponsors will see tremendous excitement surround their advertising efforts,” commented National Marketing Director, Bill McCloud. “As a result, we are seeing more interest by other major firms in what we are accomplishing with this series and we expect to hear from many others before the end of the season,” McCloud concluded. Things will only continue to heat up going into 2008 with current rookie points leader, Bear Rezsnowiecky #3, rookie Austin Murphy #07, and many others looking to take the ’08 championship. Fans can follow this great series and exciting point’s race on the ASA Speed Truck Challenge website, which updates the results after every race, at www.speedtruck.com. Following the series has never been easier due to the website and its full gallery of photos from every race.
