CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT YAKIMA SPEEDWAY

YAKIMA, Washington – A large crowd witnessed another great night of stockcar action as new champions were crowned at the season final points event at Yakima Speedway. Rookie Owen Riddle took the ASA Late Model crown with Buck Noel Jr. adding another championship to his collection by out distancing the Super Stock field. Bryan Moser scored his first championship in the Hobby division with Reece Kastle winning in the Hornets and Tyson Richter Jr. taking the bump to Pass class. A good field of 18 Late Models were in attendance Saturday evening. The night ended early for Dan Obrist with engine problems. Past champion, Scott Walker scored his first win of the season. Walker took over the point from Mike Zamora on lap 10 and lead the rest of the 75 lap event. Jim Warn, driving an excellent race, pushed Walker hard for the win but came up just a little short. Rich Peters was third with Scott Davis in fourth and Ron Bemis rounding out the top five. Darin Stordahl competed with his crate engine and finished a credible seventh after a late race incident moved him to the rear of the field. Tony Huffines started the super Stock event in the seventh position and quickly moved to the point on lap ten. The super competitive field was hot on his bumper the entire forty laps. Mike Pepper ended up second with dusty John in third, champion Buck Noel Jr. in fourth and A.J. rose in fifth. The Hobby division had the closest points battle going into the final. Six racers had a chance to win the championship. Brian Moser, by finishing fourth, sewed up the crown. Ben St. Mary, after repairing his severely damaged racer from an accident last race, scored a popular win in the forty lap main. Mel Patnode was second with title contender Marcus Maggard third and Todd Connell in fifth. Reece Kastle won the Hornet main and took home his first season championship. Tyson Richter Jr. also won his main event in the Bump to Pass division to score a run a way championship in that class. Next event for the speedway is the season ending Fall Classic set for September 28-30th. Yakima Speedway Race Results -- 09/08/2007
