CALIFORNIANS: HELP PREVENT CRUELTY TO FARMED ANIMALS
Source: PETA
Your immediate help is needed to put a measure on the 2008 ballot that would outlaw the cruel confinement of veal calves, egg-laying hens, and breeding pigs. In factory farms, animals are crammed by the thousands into filthy windowless sheds, wire cages, gestation crates, and other confinement systems, where they are never allowed to do anything that is natural and important to them. This critical measure will phase out the use of gestation crates for pigs and battery cages for egg-laying hens as well as prevent the use of "veal crates" for male calves. In order for this initiative to get on the November 2008 ballot, 650,000 signatures need to be collected in five short months. Please join the team of volunteers that will put this precedent-setting measure on the ballot by attending a kick-off rally near you. At the rallies, information will be available about the campaign and how you can get involved in this amazing effort to help farmed animals—along with special guest speakers Bruce Friedrich (vice president of PETA), Wayne Pacelle (CEO and president of The Humane Society of the United States), and Gene Baur (founder and president of Farm Sanctuary).
