BRYAN HERZOG – STRONG SHOWING IN HIS ROOKIE SEASON IN THE SRL

WILTON, California − Bryan Herzog has had a solid rookie year in the StockCar Racing League (SRL) winning his first SRL race at Shasta, currently sitting on top of the rookie of the year points standings and in fifth place in over all drivers points. And like many SRL drivers, he has worked his way up to the SRL tour cars after gaining experience in other divisions.

Bryan grew up watching his dad race everything from mini cup cars to modified’s to late models at Madera Speedway. He got his first shot at driving on the track at age 16 when his dad let him take a few laps during a tire test. When he was a senior in high school, he got his first taste of competitive racing in the Mini Stock division driving a Toyota sedan. He ran 4 races at the end of the season so he could qualify rookie status the next year after finishing high school. The next season he finished 7th in points and won the rookie of the year title for the division. This was quite an accomplishment for a young rookie in a division that fielded car counts of over 30 cars! Bryan went on to compete in many of the same divisions his dad had raced in including modified’s and the local late model division.

Like many drivers, Bryan got his inspiration from a family member and from a NASCAR hero. Herzog, like many fans, has always admired Dale Earnhardt Sr. He admired how Earnhardt could work his way from the back driving hard all the way to the front. But more than Dale Sr., Bryan has always admired his dad. “He taught me everything I know about driving a racecar, either by me watching him kick butt on the track or by instructing me in the pits or on the radio”, explained Herzog.

Herzog’s goal this year was to learn from the more experienced drivers in the SRL touring series and to win the rookie of the year title. Longer term, Bryan would like to advance as high as he possibly can. “I think I may be too old to make it to the Nextel Cup level, but that is still my ultimate goal”, said Herzog. He feels that this season has been a very good learning experience for their whole team.

Bryan considers competing in the SRL touring series his greatest racing achievement to date. Herzog recalls, “Only last year I watched these cars roll through the pits in Madera while I was running my late model and wished I could run one of them.”

When Bryan is not racing he enjoys watching his oldest son Mikey (9 years old) “kick butt” on the soccer field where his team is undefeated so far this year. He is also working on getting his youngest, Austin (5 years old) into a Jr. Sprint car. As a family, the Herzog’s enjoy trips to the coast and camping. When Bryan and his wife can fit it into their schedule, they enjoy riding their Harley with their friends. Bryan is also busy running his own business, “Rock Solid Designs” where he has four employees who install cultured stone for homes and commercial buildings.

With the last race of the season coming up on October 13th at Altamont, Herzog and his team hope for a strong finish as they try to capture the rookie points title and possibly move up in the over all points standings too!
