CAMPBELL TAKES ASA STREET STOCK WIN AT HAVASU 95 SPEEDWAY

Chip Campbell was the big winner of the ASA Street Stock feature, October 20th, at the Havasu 95 Speedway. The event was part of a big show at the quarter mile oval located in Lake Havasu City-Arizona. The 30 lap feature was action packed, with six caution flags, and often featured side by side racing among the leaders.

Campbell's Chevrolet Camaro came off of the front road and led the 16 starters underneath the initial green flag. Rick Layman's Camaro was hot in pursuit and by lap 12 was mounting a serious challenge to the race leader. The two local drivers ran a series of laps where they traded the lead back and forth and often ran side by side much to the delight of the large crowd on hand. However, in the final five laps Layman's car began to fade and that allowed Campbell to take the win. Jim Carlo, Steve Wade, Layman and Nathan Hovdal completed the top five. In the preliminary events Alex Martinez and Campbell won the heat races while Layman won the trophy dash.

The always fun ASA Factory Stocks were also a big part of this evening and featured 19 cars. Lake Havasu City's Mark Fullham staged a full on assault against race leader Rick Clark and finally took the lead to win the feature in the final moments of the race. The race ended one lap early when when the majority of the top five in the field got together that resulted in a wreck that literally blocked the entire front straightaway. Speedway officials determined that the final top five consisted of Fullam, Mark Berlant, Clark, Jumbo John Thorpe and Scott Allen. In the preliminary events Clark and Dale Clement won the heat races while Berlant took the trophy dash.

The ladies also provided a lot of entertainment on this night in the ASA Powder Puff Factory Stock division. Lisa Snell won the feature and yelled "this is wonderful-I love this" after parking her car in the Havasu 95 Speedway's victory lane. Stephanie Felish, Sandy Nagel, Nissa Harris and Colette Rozhon completed the top five. In their preliminary events Nicole French and Kelsey Lynch won the heat races while Nissa Harris, who was reported to be making her series' debut, won the trophy dash.####
