CONCORD, North Carolina -- The World of Outlaws have competed a total of 15 times at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway dating back to 2000. For 15 consecutive days leading up to the inaugural Outlaws World Finals, each of those 15 events will be recounted, culminating with the opening night of inaugural Outlaws World Finals on November 1 at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Today will focus on the ninth of those 15 events, which was contested on May 24, 2002.

Greg Hodnett, the 1993 World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year battled Stevie Smith for the lead early in the 25-lap preliminary feature and then had a little luck fall his way as well, to claim the $5,000 triumph. From the pole position, Hodnett was in front for the first 14 laps, before Smith passed him to take the point on the 15th lap. Smith’s hopes for the win were dashed on the 19th circuit, when he suffered a flat tire.

Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws champion finished second, with Jac Haudenschild third. Craig Dollansky was fifth, with Danny Lasoski seventh and Joey Saldana ninth.

Other current World of Outlaws drivers that competed in the event included: Daryn Pittman, Paul McMahan, Jason Sides, Tim Shaffer, Jeremy Campbell, Donny Schatz and Randy Hannagan.

The inaugural Outlaws World Finals featuring the World of Outlaws and the World of Outlaws Late Model Series are set for November 1-3, with the finale of the event set to be broadcast LIVE on SPEED on November 3 from 8-11 p.m. Eastern.
