BREA LOPEZ HONORED AT WMRA BANQUET, HEADING TO IRWINDALEWMRA
Source: GA Motorsports Media
![]() VADER, Washington -- Eighteen year old Midget driving star Brea Lopez was honored as the series "Most Improved Driver" at the recent Washington Midget Racing Association annual awards banquet. The banquet was held at the Fabulous Fifties Hall in Tacoma and the packed house on hand enjoyed great dinner and had the opportunity to listen to Chip Hannauer, one of the true legends in Unlimited Hydroplane, speak about his competitive days in the sport. In addition to being named the most improved driver, Lopez was honored for her third place finish in the series points battle. Lopez, who finished ninth in points one year ago, was solid in the runner-up spot right up until the final event, where she was taken out early by another competitor and was forced to spend much of the remainder of the race pitside for repairs. Lopez returned to competition late in the race but had lost too many laps to make up any kind of difference and slipped back to third place in overall points for the season, losing second place by a mere two points to Ken Ferris. The Brea Lopez Motorsports Team utilized their Beast Chassis/Esslinger Powered Midget car during the WMRA season and have recently gone over the entire car to prepare it for the expected tough competition at the Turkey Night Spectacular in Irwindale, California on November 22nd. For Lopez, this will be her third attempt at making the show. Her first two experiences at the super quick half mile complex resulted in some mechanical woes and slowing her efforts. With her agressive style of driving, Lopez is hoping to find the sweet spot in both the chassis and the racetrack to try to race her way into this year's show. In speaking with Brea Lopez at home she stated, "It was great to be honored at the banquet for my efforts this year. The award is a tribute to everyone who has helped out our team this year. Without the the great group of people behind me, I am not sure we would have been able to race this year. We fell short of our goal to win the title, but know in our hearts we have the talent of doing so and hopefully in 2008 it will be our chance to shine". Lopez further added, "We are looking forward to Turkey Night at Irwindale, as a good performance in the race can only us help us as we look at our future in racing. Since our first two efforts at Irwindale were less than we expected, we are merely hoping for the best and see where it takes us". Brea Lopez would like to thank all of her sponsors and supporters for their efforts in helping the team out this year. Steve Forler Trucking, Redline Oil, Ridgecrest Homes, Hooker Harness, Bell Helmets, Finish Line Racing Equipment, Gary Magnuson Trucking, Pro Shocks, Steve Lewis, Dave Reed, John Hunter, Charlie Patterson, Keizer Wheels, Loma Hair Products, Ringers Gloves GA Motorsports Media, Shadow Light Productions, and most importantly the fans have all played a major role in the success of the team this year.
