MISSOURI STAR JESSE “THE ROCKET” HOCKETT ENTERS USAC/CRA SEASON OPENER AND PAS 360 CHAMPIONSHIP!Date: 01/28/2008
Last November 2nd, Hockett, 24, journeyed to The PAS and defeated one of the toughest fields of Sprint Cars assembled in 2007 when he the won the main event on the second preliminary night of the Budweiser Oval Nationals. It was Hockett’s first ever-main event win on the brightly lit Riverside County clay oval. One night later he ended up an impressive fourth in the prestigious Oval Nationals A main event. Hockett heads into The PAS season opener coming off a very impressive showing in the USAC National Series in 2007. He ended up fifth in USAC National points and along the way posted one win (mentioned above), eight top five finishes and 14 top tens. His season was impressive enough to earn the “Most Improved Driver” award in what is commonly known as the nation’s toughest non-wing sprint car series. While 2007 was Hockett’s first full season with the USAC National Sprint Car Series, he is no stranger to racing fans or success. In fact, he won his first main event at Pikeston, Kansas’ Linn County Speedway 10 years ago at the tender age of 14. In 2003, he pocketed $10,000.00 when he won the Non-wing World Championship at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas. He made the A main at the 2004 Knoxville Nationals and journeyed down under to win the Western Australia Points Week Championship in 2005. Two weeks ago, Hockett placed 12th in the A main at the Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma. That is extremely impressive as 275 cars vied for the 24 spots in the A main! Hockett will be behind the wheel the familiar VKCC Motorsports #75s in both halves of the season opening program. Another driving star named Jesse is also among the early entries for the 360 portion of the program. Jesse Mack, of San Luis Obispo, California is the defending Bandit Sprint Car Series champion. Mack won four main events on his way to last year’s title and all four of his wins came at the Santa Maria Speedway.
