42ND ANNUAL APPLE CUP SET FOR APRIL 12 – 13YAKIMA, Washington – Yakima Speedway announced the dates for the 42nd running of the Apple Cup. This prestigious event will be held on the second weekend of April. Classes racing will be the Late Models, Super Stocks, Hobby sportsman and the new Hobby stock class. Also joining the event again this year will be the exciting Northwest Modifieds.

A slight change in format will be the shortening of the Apple Cup Event for the Late Models. This years’ edition will be a 150 lap event. The race will be run in two 75 - lap segments with a ten minute break. Competitors will be allowed to change two tires, and make chassis adjustments during the break. This step is taken to lower the costs to the competitors, while still providing the fans with an extra length race.

The season will open with a practice session set for April 11th from noon until 5:00. Saturday will feature time trials at 1:00 with trophy dashes heat races and qualifying events to set the field for Sundays’ races. The Apple Cup on Sunday is set to go off with opening ceremonies set for 1:00 with racing to follow.

The rules for the 2008 edition of the Apple Cup will be the local rules for the stockcar classes. The rules for the Mods will be the Northwest Modified Association rules.

The noise limit and exhaust size rules from Yakima speedway will be strictly enforced. Exhaust size is 4” maximum. And a DB reading no louder than 98 at 75 feet.

Speedway owner, Ted Pollock, has lowered the ticket prices for this special event. Adult admission will be $25 for Sundays’ events and a two day ticket only $35.

Who will wear the 2008 Apple Cup crown? Ellensburg’s Travis Bennett has won the last two Apple Cup events. Can he beat the very best in the Northwest to make it three in a row? Eight drivers, over the years, have won two in a row but only Don Dowdy and Derrick Cope have managed to turn the hat trick.

The Apple Cup has long been one of the must see events for the Northwest racing fan. This years’ edition is shaping up as one of the best.####
