The Lucas OIl I 10 Speedway will present the next round of its Winter Blast Racing Series this Saturday night, February 16th, on the quarter mile paved oil, located at the Colorado River Fairgrounds, in Blythe-California. Fans can expect to see plenty of action from the West Coast Pro Truck Series, the Budweiser Modifieds, the Torco Fuel Street Stocks and the Lucas Oil Factory Stocks.
The West Coast Pro Trucks, WCPT, will officially kick off their 2008 season in Blythe this Saturday night. The regional touring racing series races on short tracks in three different states. and features full sized pick up trucks, with fiberglass bodies, that are powered by V 8 engines. Truck models approved to race in the series includes the Ford F150, Chevy Silverado, Dodge Ram and the Toyota Tundra. Their racing is fast, highly competitive and believed to be by many as being every bit as good as their counterparts from the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
Also on the card at the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway this Saturday is those thunder making, ground shaking, Budweiser Modifieds who will be making their third appearance in the 2007-2008 Winter Blast Series. This series is extremely competitive and that fact is reflected in a very tight points race that shows only 12 points separating the top four drivers. Jason Patison, who has two feature wins, sits on top of the standings with 100 points. But it's only a four point lead over modified veteran Danny Gay. JImmy Dickerson holds down third in the standings and is only eight points away from the leader. Chris Gerchman, who is no stranger to a checkered flag at the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway, is fourth in the standings just 12 points away from first.
The Torco Fuel Street Stocks have been a long time fan favorite at the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway and fans can expect plenty of action from them this Saturday night. D J Lonie is the current points leader but is only two points ahead of Bryant Sutterfield who scored his first feature win in the current Winter Blast back on Thanksgiving weekend. Dusty Hope, who won his first feature of the season back in October, is third in the standings just a mere eight points out of first. Brian Crawford holds down fourth and is only 12 points out of first. Danny Dill, with a feature win back in November, is still very much in this championship race with 168 points and is only 16 points away from the top of the standings. The Torco Fuel Street Stocks will be running twin, 25 lap, main events this Saturday night with each event paying their usual full prize money. That allow should amp up the action.
The always fun Lucas Oil Factory Stocks are also expected to provide plenty of racing action this Saturday night. This is a very affordable entry level into stock car racing. Their main events are only 12 laps but it's 12 laps of very intense racing that brings new meaning to the old phrase "racing is rubbing." The division's points standings shows a tie going into Saturday night. Gabe Carter, with two feature wins, has 88 points. John Lowrence, the reigning Winter Blast division champion, also has won two features and also has 88 points. Dean Lester holds down third and is only four points behind the leaders. Jim Burrow is in fourth and is only 10 points out of first. Still in the points picture is Kenny Foster who holds down fifth in the standings with 72 points.
The racing weekend actually begins this Friday night with a Test and Tune session for all divisions which is free to the public. On Saturday race day the spectator gates will open at 4 pm and the green flag falls over the first race at 6 pm. General admission tickets for adults are only $10. Tickets for seniors, 55 and over, as well as military personnel and the handicapped, are $8. The Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway prides itself on presenting family entertainment. Tickets for teens, age 13 to 17, are only $5, kids age 6 to 12 will be admitted for $3 while kids five and under can see the racing for free. The speedway also offers a family pack plan. $20 will admit two adults and two kids 17 and under. If you do some math that's quite a bargain.
