MERIDIAN SPEEDWAY EASTER SEALS ENDURO RESCHEDULED

MERIDIAN, Idaho - Meridian Speedway presents the annual Easter Seals 250 lap Hornet enduro on Sunday March 30th. The race was originally scheduled for Easter Sunday but broken water mains at the track caused a reschedule for the next Sunday. This race is run as a benefit to Easter Seals and one dollar of each admission will be donated to Easter Seals. Easter Seals is an organization that helps individuals with disabilities to live better lives.

The Hornet class is comprised of small cars with four or three cylinder engines. These are cars that are raced rather than race cars. Safety equipment and modifications and rollover protection is added but little else is done to the cars.

Josh Jackson, who won the Halloween enduro in 2007, is expected to be competing along with Ray Bolinger who has won at least two times in the past. The Halloween enduro in 2007 brought out 50 cars which filled the tight quarter mile oval to exciting levels for the fans. Most of the regular hornet drivers will be competing along with many others from Meridian Speedway's racing classes.

In the past the enduro has been a battle of attrition with the winners and the top several places often decided by which cars can last the entire race. At the beginning of each enduro wrecks and mishaps remove many racers from the track leaving the more reliable cars and the luckier drivers to remain. By the end it is usually the best driver who wins but staying out of trouble is possibly even more important than being the fastest.

The enduro is open to all drivers but hornet class rules apply. The winner will receive a trophy and a $1000 purse and the top 15 drivers will receive prize money.

As always the race will stay green unless a dangerous situation warrants waving the red flag. When the track is cleared the start will be counted down and the race will go directly to green again.

Upon entering the pits on race day drivers will draw for start position and a coin toss will decide if the lineup is inverted. Competitors practice session will begin at 12:30 PM. with a mandatory pit meeting afterwards.

For the fans the gates open at 1:00 PM on Sunday and the opening ceremonies will begin at 2:00 with the racing immediately after. The race will be held rain or shine but good weather is both expected and hoped for. The race is expected to last from two to two and a half hours and after the racing the pits will be open to the fans to meet the drivers.

The race was originally scheduled for Easter Sunday but broken water mains at the speedway required that the race be postponed due to repair schedules.

Cost of admission to the Easter Seals Enduro is five dollars with children 5 and under admitted free. For more information or to register for the enduro please check the Meridian Speedway website at www.meridianspeedway.com or call the speedway at 888-2813.

The annual test and tune is still scheduled for Saturday the 29th. Tech inspections will start at 9:00 A.M. and the track will open at Noon. Practice will tentatively run until 6 PM but may go longer if needed. For the test and tune only cost is $25 per race car and is free to spectators.####
