OBSERVATIONS FROM THE FLASHCO SRL SOUTHWEST TOUR SERIES SEASON OPENER

“I am very excited about this year in the SRL, the people involved from the Officials to the race director seems to be very conducive for the growth of the series. The way that they all made the adjustments in regards to the weather conditions as to what I felt were in the best interest of the teams and drivers. The practice and race control was well organized and detailed. The race itself was very competitive how about 3 wide racing with some great veterans Raudman, Pettit and Kanke on a track that is hard to race even side by side, and I know that at Irwindale we will have even more of car count and great racing action. The SRL will only continue to grow in the right direction with the way they treat the people that are there to compete.”

Dave Reed- Approved Memory, long time sponsor and spotter for Craig Raudman.

“I thought the cars looked fantastic and the teams really did a great job working together and putting on a good show for the fans. There was certainly a positive feel in the air and an excitement for the SRL that I think has been missing for some time. The corporate sponsorship presence also created a professional feel.”

Derrick Shannon, standout P R Guy for multiple west coast teams.

“The SRL Southwest Tour race provided some great side-by-side racing action. I can't wait to see these quality racers do battle again.”

Randy Kerr, Race Coordinator

“As I talked with many of the race teams this weekend it became clear to me that there is a tremendous new enthusiasm that has been generated in the SRL this year. With the addition of the Collins family to the mix, people feel that this series is going to get the boost it needed. Steve Fensler is so good to all the racers and works very hard to make the drivers feel appreciated. The first race was very exciting and everyone put on a great show. This series is beginning to look like the southwest tour once again. I am looking forward to joining the competition again at Irwindale on April 26th.”

Dan Holtz, SRL competitor who did not compete at Roseville due to his car not being ready in time, but servedas Crew Chief for fellow SRL driver Mike Lay.

“First of all, I am very impressed on how smoothly the race was run. I thought the race tower who was calling the shots did an excellent job and please keep that intact if possible. All in all I was very happy with the professionalism of all the drivers on the track and with the officiating on and off the track.”

Bob Strandwold, defending FLASHCO SRL Southwest Tour Series championship owner, with drivers Dave Byrd and Craig Raudman.

“I thought the battle between past champions Jim Pettit and Craig Raudman plus Mike Kanke was some of the best driving I have seen in a long time. I wished I could have been mixing it up with those drivers. Congratulations to the winner Troy Ermish, he had some fast company coming on fast.”

Ron Esau, 1986 Inaugural Southwest Tour Champion and 1979 Roseville Rose Classic Winner.

“A new year, a new name, a new sponsor, packed grandstands, and a bright future to come. The first race at All American Speedway, sold out three days before, was a blast and brought back many memories for this fan. Though the leader had this particular evening covered for the win, the battle for third was exactly what stock car racing is to me. Three wide on a two wide racetrack, slippin' and slidin', rubbin' and bumping, on the edge of control around Roseville's tight third mile. This is racing the way I like it, the SRL as the reborn Tour just like the good ol' days. The amazing nights packed with thousands of fans, dozens of race teams, drivers you identify with and follow, just having a great time racin' for the entire weekend.

A classic name returned to the race cars it belongs with........The Southwest Tour.

A thousand thanks to everyone at All American Speedway for a very successful and memorable weekend!.....Andy D.
