JASON PATISON OPENS 2008 NASCAR WEST SEASON WITH TOP 10

It was the first race of the NASCAR Camping World West season at All American Speedway, in Roseville, California, on top of that, was it the first time that Patison and his crew had met! After a personal change at Speed Wong Racing LLC, the team was forced to hire a new crew chief and crew for the 2008 season. With an entire off season’s worth of work to do in less than a month the new team put in many sleepless nights to ensure that the #17 would be ready to hit the track on March 29.

Without having any preseason testing and Friday’s practice being shortened due to rain, Patison had to make the most of his lone test session on Saturday and he did just that, posting the third quickest time of 13.82. Unfortunately Patison did not get the lap he was hoping for in qualifying, posting a much slower time of 14.42, good enough for nineteenth out of the twenty five car field.

Starting tenth row inside, Patison gained a couple places early, but lost all of those positions and then some when, the #52 car spun Patison coming out of turn 2. After spinning the #17 machine stalled and would not restart until Patison switched to his secondary battery, unfortunately by the time the car refired Patison lost two laps. Over the next 80 laps Patison raced hard to earn back valuable positions and was the recipient of the “Lucky Dog” 2 times, putting him back on the lead lap.

Right around lap 100, Patison was up into 14th place but was again spun, this time by car number 42, negating all of his forward progress and putting him back to the 22nd position with only 50 laps to go. Through several passes, along with the help of several cautions, Patison was able to race his way back to 10th place before the checkered flag waived.

Although they had higher hopes for their fast car, Patison and his crew were very pleased with the outcome. “All things considered I think we had a great finish, for this team to work as hard as they did to get these cars ready, and for us not to have any testing prior to this event, I think a top 10 is a awesome finish, especially after being 2 laps down,” said Patison. The next stop for the series is Phoenix International Raceway on April 10th. With the first race out of the way and a chance to test and work with his new car and crew; Jason Patison and his team are confident things will only get better from here.

Special thanks goes out to all of Patison’s crew members, team owner Darryl Wong, and Sponsors including Lucas Oil Products, Super Clean, Dixie Chopper, Jasper Engines, E3 Spark Plugs, Jim Beam, and Fatheadz for all of their great support. Patison knows without his sponsors, crew members, and loyal fans none of this would be possible.
