AUSTIN CAMERON AND THE NO. 18 NAPA AUTOCARE TOYOTA TEAM’S PODIUM FINISH IN TEXASNASCAR WEST SERIES
Date: 04/23/2008
![]() ANTELOPE, California – As fans poured into the stands for the Allstate Texas Thunder 150 at Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle Texas, BMR driver Austin Cameron and the No. 18 NAPA AutoCare Toyota team were ready to turn their race season around. The NASCAR Camping World Series West team came to Texas thirteenth in the chase for the series championship. Cameron put the No. 18 NAPA AutoCare Toyota Camry on the front row next to his teammate, Eric Holmes to start the 150-lap race. Before a capacity crowd, it looked like this was his race to win. Cameron got a jump on his teammate right from the start and through seven of eight cautions the No. 18 NAPA AutoCare Toyota maintained in the lead. At lap 132, Holmes got under Cameron and never looked back. Cameron took the checkered flag finishing in second; his best finish of the 2008 season. Cameron led the most laps and wins the Aero Exhaust Lap Leader Award for this event. “I was extremely happy with the outcome of the race,” said Cameron. “Even though we didn’t win, it was a massive improvement from the previous two races.” Cameron was fifth quick in the first practice of the day and posted second fast in the second.
Cameron and the No. 18 NAPA AutoCare Toyota team gained ten spots in the point race and leave Texas tied for third with Jeff Jefferson and teammate Moses Smith. Mike David remains in the lead.
“To be tied for 3rd place in points really helps lessen the pain,” laughed Cameron.
The next event on the schedule for the NASCAR Camping World Series is the US Cellular 200 East/West combination race at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa, on May 18.
