DEMING, Washington - Another week, another first time winner at Deming Speedway. After a one week layoff due to snow, 83 cars packed the Deming pits, and for the second week in this young year, a youngster won for the first time. Steven Hendrickson, a rookie in the Lifestyles RV 1200 class, held off multiple time track champion Brock Lemley to win his first career main event at the 1/6 mile clay oval. Lemley methodically made his way through the pack and mounted a charge with three laps to go, but Hendrickson showed incredible poise for a young driver, bringing home his first career win. Lifestyles RV and Les Schwab night provided many great late race battles, and the Frontier Chevrolet / Speedmart 600 class was amongst them. Blake Brigge, after a year and a half hiatus, led all 25 laps of the 600 main. It was easy going for Blake till around lap 17 when Logan Forler found the hidden combination to make his car go, and gave Blake all he could handle over the final few circuits. The PMP Chassis 600 Restricted class was dominated all night by Chad Sinner. Sinner timed in almost two tenths of a second faster than the field, and ran away with his main, beating second place Jacob Buckenmeyer by almost a full straightaway. The Advanced Sprint Car and Toys for Trucks 250 main was as physical a main as was seen all night. The race featured three different leaders – Spud Allen who was forced to the pits around lap 10 with broken radius rods led from the get go. After the yellow, Jake Benson assumed the lead on the restart and many assumed he would check out. Shawn Holtorf had different ideas, muscling around Benson and fending off multiple charges from the former race leader and former Clay Cup champion Eric Turner on his way to victory lane.
The Kasey Kahne Junior Sprint division has been a one man show this year, with Austin Sheridan dominating yet another main event. Sheridan has been nearly uncatchable, and looks to carry his momentum into next week’s event, sponsored by Haggen Food and Pharmacy. All 5 classes will be in action once again.
