ORANGE SHOW SPEEDWAY
Date: 04/28/2008
SAN BERNARDINO – Long before Roger Brown of Corona won the first of two 50-lap Main events for the BSR West Super Late Models, it has been a busy off season for many drivers in at Orange Show Speedway. With some new faces, in different places, fans will be on the edge of their seats. OSS kicked off the 2008 Super Late Model Season with a set of twin 50-lap main events. Drivers liked the fact that the speedway was going to be bringing more laps to their main events each week, but could never have imagined all the additional time and laps to enjoy their favorite sport. Adjustments to the race day schedule now allow teams to get additional practice time and more laps for the main events. Brown, who battled handling challenges after early race contact, took the lead and took advantage of a battle for second between Barry Karr and Glenn Cummings to hold on for the victory. Barry Karr played the role of bridesmaid, not once, but twice as he couldn’t quite catch Linny White in the second main event. It was an emotional victory for White, who added the letter J to the familiar number 55 that he drives, as he paid tribute to James White, who passed away earlier this year;
“We spent many a night working on race cars. The fact that I could come out here and win, first time back in the car since, it means a lot to me. He meant a lot to me.”
Chuck Becker ll, of Cabazon, won the heated, 40-lap main event in a Pro 4 class that was dominated early by Kendall Scheidecker and Don Minut. The heated battle ended both drivers chance for victory after contact brought out the yellow and both were sent to the back of the field. Minut wove thru traffic, but ran out of laps trying to catch the race winner Becker and finished second.
Glenn Dederick of Desert Hot Springs won the opening night race for the ASA Factory Fours. Dederick had never raced on asphalt prior to Saturday. His only race experience was on local dirt ovals. Drew Reed had a career best second place finish and fellow 2nd year driver Kim Marzullo enjoyed her first-ever fast time award.
Tom Whitson of Riverside won a Pure Stock 15 Lap Challege race. Orange Show Speedway has been asked to consider bringing back the division and has listed a series of races for them in 2008 under what was to be Stock Car USA races scheduled at the track. OSS has said that it will be a combination of car count for their scheduled races as well as fan appeal on the decision to bring back a long standing division that was the prelude to what fans know as the CEC ASA Street Stocks that run at OSS in 2008.
