FLEMING AND KAPLAN EARN TWO MORE TOP-FIVES FOR HPR
TOYOTA SPEEDWAY AT IRWINDALE
Source: High Point Racing
IRWINDALE, California - High Point Racing showed Saturday night that the weather isn't the only thing heating up at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. Rookie High Point Racing drivers, Colin Fleming and Ryan Kaplan finished in the top five with a third and fourth place finish, respectively. For Fleming, the third place finish came on the eve of his twenty-fourth birthday. After starting in the eighth position, Colin quickly moved into the fifth position and battled teammate Ryan Kaplan for several laps before overcoming him and taking the fourth spot. The two teammates battled again through the fifty lap main event as they followed their car owner Tim Huddleston who ran in the third position. With only 3 laps to go, the Justice Brothers High Point Racing #50 of Tim Huddleston slowed as it entered turn two. As the car exited the right front tire rolled off the car as the wheel studs had broken away from the hub. Huddleston drove the car off the track followed by a large trail of sparks as he drug the under carriage of the car. For Fleming the third place finish was the second podium of his short stock car racing career. After two unfinished races for the King Taco/Global Swift Funding late model in the prior week races, an excited Fleming told his crew "We're Back!" Ryan Kaplan's fourth place finish was his first top five in his GTTrends.com High Point Racing machine. It was also the third race in which Kaplan improved his prior weeks finishing position. The consistency has landed Kaplan in the third position in the points standings and the current leader in the Rookie of the Year chase. Female High Point Racing drivers Lindsey King and Jennifer Greenberg finished the race eleventh and thirteenth, respectively. King was involved in a lap one incident in which she spun on the front straight away. It appeared that she was going to be able to get the spinning car headed in the right direction before locking it down to avoid cars dodging her on both sides. She escaped from the spin untouched and fought back to finish just ahead of former Nationwide series driver Auggie Vidovich. Greenberg proved that she is becoming a stronger driver in the late model division as she improved her best late model finish.
After the race, the High Point team parked their cars in the extended chalet area and invited over one thousand YMCA Indian Guides to come down from the stands and obtain autographs and pictures.
The Indian Guides race was only part of the press filled weekend for the High Point Racing development drivers. On Friday they attended sponsor Justice Brothers' corporate headquarters where they were given a tour of the factory and racecar museum by President and CEO Ed Justice Jr. immediately followed by a question and answer session with over fifty nationwide distributors. On Sunday the team attended the Conejo Valley Chili Cook-Off in Thousand Oaks where they signed autographs and posed for pictures for over 18,000 valley residents in attendance.
High Point Racing is certainly heating up with it's current class of development drivers. The next race for the development team will be May 10th at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale.
