EVERGREEN SPEEDWAY RESULTSEVERGREEN SPEEDWAY
Date: 05/04/2008
Husband and Wife, Naima Lang and Jill Lang, both won the main events in their respective NASCAR Whelen All American Series races Saturday night.
Naima won in dominating fashion in the Speedway Chevrolet Super Stock Division, as he picked his way through the field. Early on, rookie sensation James Mugge led but experienced problems with a tire going flat and had to make a pit stop. Just just one caution flag slowed the race, with a double file restart letting fans see how exciting short track racing on Saturday nights can be. As consistent as ever, Mike Holden finished second and John Zaretzke, who during the middle of the race tangled with another car but continued on and had to play "catch up" finishing third.
In the Les Schwab Tires Bomber Division early leader Merlin Cook had mechanical problems while leading by a bunch early. Former Champion Travis Blackwood took command of the race and led for several laps. Meanwhile Jill Lang and Defending Champion Lane Sundholm were closing fast. While battling for the lead Blackwood spun bringing out the only caution of the race. Lang went on to victory with Sundholm close behind and current points leader Jim Foti finishing third. Rookie of the Year candidate Mark McCutcheon took B-Main honors.
The Pawn X-Change Super Figure Eights finally saw someone other than Defending Champion John Carlson or Ricky Deitz win a main event. Even though both had great runs, it was Troy Siminaer's bad luck that let Doug Delfel retake the lead and drive to victory as the battle behind him raged. Ryan Gunderson drove a smooth race finishing second while Deitz, who had severed part of a finger just 20 hours before, drove his way to third.
Stinger Eights brought yet another fantastic field of cars and Steve Peters battled with son Sean Peters in the heat and main event for the win in each. Defending Champion Mike Middleton finished third in a spirited battle for the lead behind Sean and Dad Steve. Jessica Gray won the B-Main event.
Lance O'Grain won the growing Crash Cars! class main event, pounding it out with Mr. Dizzy all event long. In all, seven main events and eleven heat races made up the new format at Evergreen and treated fans to the very best non-stop, short track racing action at the biggest and best attended stock car racing facility, and the only NASCAR Home Track, in the Pacific Northwest.
