LUCKHURST AND BIGOS WIN THREE IN A ROW

The Affordable Tire & Service Center Pure Stocks were the first division to see the track on this evening. Corunnaʼs Kevin Atkins, after a disastrous opening night, would set fast time with a quick lap of 19.380 around the 3/8 mile oval. Ovid rookie Chris Wood would pace the field to the green flag, with Durandʼs Mike Ashford over taking him on the opening lap. Ashford would maintain the lead for two laps before Ashleyʼs Ricky Moore would relieve him of the top spot for just one lap before defending track Champion, Perry, Michiganʼs Mike McMullen would take the top spot and never look back, taking his second win of the season. Kevin Atkins would drive to a strong second place finish with Leroy Whitaker, Mike Ashford and Ricky Moore rounding out the top five. Ashford and Kevin Atkins would win the heat races.

Joe Morrissette would lead the field to the green for the 30-lap Bigos Precast Modified Feature. Morrissette would hold off fourth-generation driver Steve Bates, Jr. for the first 16 laps as fast qualifier Travis Eddy worked his way to the front, using the high-side to his advantage. On lap 17 Eddy would take the lead, as nine-time and defending track Champion Bill Luckhurst, coming off of two straight feature wins, was looking to take number three in a row and the second of 2008. Luckhurst and Eddy would do battle all over the high-banks of the Owosso Speedway, with Eddy being able to hold off Luckhurst through lap 29. But, coming off of turn four, Luckhurstʼs car would use the momentum from the high side to beat Travis Eddy to the line by mere inches, robbing the young driver of his first Owosso Speedway win. Eddy would come home in a VERY close second, followed by Steve Bates, Jr., Laci Donnert5 and former Street Stock track champion, Mark Abee rounding out the top five. Steve Bates, Jr. and Bill Luckhurst would take the heats.

Rookie Frank Schumitz would lead the Advance Integrated Service Street Stocks to the green flag, but on the first lap, 16 year old Andrew Clark would get around him to take the lead. Clark had never won a feature race before, but would drive a steady and sure line all the way to the first checkered flag of his career! Mark Ragsdale would finish second for the second time in two races. Defending track Champion Matt Puskarich would come home third with Jordan Harvey and last weeks winner John Forsythe, III rounding out the top five. Leo Smith paced the field in qualifying with a lap of 17.170 and Andrew Clark and Chris Begg would take the heat race wins.

Owossoʼs Joe Cantu would make his return to the Owosso Speedway by starting on the pole of the 30-lap Affordable Tire & Service Center Late Model feature. Fowlervilleʼs Ron Hauser, making his first appearance since the season finale last year, would overtake Cantu on the first lap and take the lead. Hauser would continue to lead as Dave Bigos, the winner of the previous two features worked his way through the pack. By lap 20, Bigos overtook Hauser and would go on to take the win. Hauser would hold on to finish second with Russ Cords, Mark Petit and John Buckner, Jr. rounding out the top five. Joe Cantu and Russ Cords would take the heat races.

Shaun Conner would lead the Mini-Stocks to the green flag, but would be passed by Dan Gokee before he could make it back around to complete the lap. Gokee would lead for three laps before being overtaken by defending track Champion, Alex Donnert. Donnert would hold on to take the win, his second straight. Dan Gokee would come second followed by Shaun Conner and Henry Kenan. Dan Gokee would take the heat.

Make sure to be in attendance next week, as the Owosso Speedway roars to life once more, for a full four-in-one show of Affordable Tire & Service Center Late Models, Bigos Precast Modifieds, Advance Integrated Service Street Stocks and Affordable Tire & Service Center Pure Stocks. Gates open at Noon, qualifying at 5 PM and racing at 7 PM. Make sure to be there when we get back at it at the Big O!
