FISHER REELS IN MAIN EVENT WINTWIN FALLS, Idaho – Stevie Fisher survived a crash fest at Magic Valley Speedway last Saturday night after the Pepsi Premier driver was able to steer clear of hazards to land in the winner’s circle.

There were 18 cars in the field to start the 50-lap main event - but seven drivers became spectators after having to bow out of the race with some type of damage or other issue.

With Jonathon Gomez in the lead all heck broke loose on the front stretch at lap 25 and TJ Woodhall, Louis Lopez and Sam Harris collected more than enough injuries to their cars to be through for the evening. After the restart Gomez got loose in the back stretch and also sustained wounds to his No. 2 car, but was able to complete the race although his bid for the win was out the window.

With the rides of David Patrick and Allen Williams also parked for the night, it was Fisher and Rick Fowble contending for the win with a hungry pack behind them. Soon Brett Thomspon, driving the No. 12 late model, became the next victim of the race when he hit the wall hard in the front stretch at lap 35. This put Fisher and Fowble side-by-side for another restart but it was Fisher’s night – and the driver went on to catch his first win of the season.

“We’ve been fighting carburetor problems the past couple of weeks and we finally had ours worked on this week,” Fisher said. “Then we came here tonight and everybody had to switch carburetors. Then we fought that carburetor all day long – but my crew worked really hard tonight and got us out there.”

The track pulled a surprise carburetor swap on the Premier Series drivers, requiring them to give up the one they came out with and use one of a competing car.

“But yeah, I’m glad I stayed out of all the mess. I’m looking around the pits right now and there’s some damage to a lot of cars out here.”

Budweiser Super Stocks

It looked like Bill Manker had his first main event win in the division all wrapped up until Jonathon Gomez was able to make his car stick on the outside groove to edge Manker for the win. Manker, who began the 25-lap main event race from the pole, was able to leave all the skirmishing for positions behind him, but once Gomez had fought his way through the field he was able to run down Manker in the final laps. It was Gomez’ second trip to Victory Lane in the Super Stocks division this season.

Magic Valley Pipe Thunder Stocks

Stacey Jensen was able to get around leader Craig Nuthak after Nuthak slowed in the backstretch allowing Jensen to take over the lead at lap 10. Nuthak was able to get back in position to challenge Jensen in the final laps, but got held up behind a lap car making room for Steve Edens reign in a second place finish in the 20-lap main event race.

Quale’s Electronics Hornets

Tim Ford led the first half of the main event race until Justin Slocum took over at lap13. However, Slocum wound up getting stung by Daniel Shirley who made a last second charge - nipping Slocum at the finish line by .032 seconds for his first win of the season.
