BYRD TESTED TOUGH

Dave Byrd and the Performance Electric Racing Team are tested and ready to go for the upcoming Memorial Day race weekend as part of the Flashco SRL Southwest Tour Series. This weekend’s race is the first race of the 2008 Tri-Holiday Classic Series at Altamont Motorsports Park.

The SRL series held a special test session at the speedway on Saturday, May 17th. With testing complete, Dave, a two time Altamont Motorsports Park Track Champion, looks forward to racing at one of the Bay Area’s home tracks.

“Life on the road is fun, in that it is challenging and all, but there’s nothing like racing at a local track.” stated Dave. “We’ll be rested and ready to charge.”

Dave would always prefer to be at any track on any given day, but Dave always seems to step it up for the special holiday events. In looking back to one of the other “Home Tracks”, Dave is the 2004 Tri-Holiday Series Champion at the now closed Stockton 99 Speedway.

On a personal note, Saturday’s race not only commemorates Memorial Day, but Saturday is also Military Appreciation Day at the speedway and Military Appreciation is something close to the heart of this team. Hillary LaFever, the daughter of crew member John LaFever, grew up around the Dave Byrd Racing shop. Hillary set a family record of going to see Dave race at three weeks old. Hillary answered the call to serve her country and was deployed to Iraq serving in the Army’s 441st Civil Affairs Battalion. Before Hillary even returned from her tour, she was promoted to Sergeant and awarded an Army Accommodation Metal.

“Dave checked almost daily if there was word from Hillary” explained John LaFever. “Dave always made it very clear how proud he was of her, but he also made it very clear how concerned he was about how she was doing.”

Dave Byrd and the SRL Southwest Tour Series will be ready to race in a special mid-day race format on May 24th with spectator gates opening at noon at Altamont Motorsports Park, outside Tracy, California.
