Darren Amidon set a blistering pace to catch race leader Broc Murphy and won the 35 lap feature for the Leno's Rico Taco Legend Car Series, May 31st, at the Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino-California. The ASA sanctioned evening also included action from the CEC Street Stocks, ASA Stock Ponys and the INEX Bandoleros on the quarter mile paved oval.

Lancaster-California's Broc Murphy led the field under the initial green flag and quickly jumped into the lead. The young driver set some very impressive lap times and soon had a full straightaway lead. But Amidon was also racing hard and moved into second by lap 16, he closed the gap between himself and Murphy by lap 22 and by lap 26 the two drivers were running wheel to wheel with each other. One circuit later Amidon was able to maneuver his car into the low line and completed his race winning move coming out of turn four. Chad Schug took over second in the final laps of the race, Murphy was third while Ryan Schug and Brian Tyczki completed the top five.

After parking his Teldata sponsored Legend Car into the Orange Show's victory lane Amidon said "Broc had a really big lead there for awhile but I was told that I had enough laps to run him down and fortunately we did. That's why I love the Legend Car racing here we race each other hard but it's also a really great group."

In CEC Street Stock action Kyle Meyer came off of his front row staring position and led all 30 laps of the feature. Andrew Murphy, making his series premiere, followed him under the checkers while Johnny Russo, Cliff Coklin and Jesse Cottrell completed the top five. After parking his S J Meyer Properties street stock in victory lane the race winner said "the car ran perfectly tonight and that's a credit to my crew chief. We're doing this mainly for fun and I think Street Stocks is where it's at. We've got a lot of cars and some good competition."

Long time fans of the Orange Show Speedway's ASA Stock Pony Program may recall many times when the division's feature races were referred to as "the Jim and Jim show."

That was in reference to the racing between Jim Edmiston and Jim Mardis that often brought the fans to their feet. We came very close to see another episode of "Jim and Jim" on this night. On lap six Edmiston pulled a low line pass, coming off of turn four, on race leader Ryan Bragdon and it turned out to be a race winning move that enabled him to win the 30 lap feature. Meanwhile Mardis took the second position on lap 11 and began the process of eliminating the real estate between himself and the leader. The fans were getting excited as Mardis began getting closer and closer to his long time racing rival. Unfortunately, time ran out and many observers agreed that if this race would have been 35 laps the finish would have been spectacular. Matt Goodwin, Bragdon and Adrianne Murlin followed them under the checkers to complete the top five.

After pulling his Ford Pinto, sponsored by Francie's Pub and Grill-Stick Shift Transmissions and Clearwater Pipeline in victory lane Edmiston acknowledged that the level of competition in the ASA Stock Pony Division has increased significantly over the years and said "this is really a fun class and the drivers in it are getting better and better. It was a fun class in the min nineties and it's still a lot of fun now."

The INEX Bandoleros made their 2008 division debut and Eric Sloan won the feature race flag to flag with Kyle Niquette behind him. Parker Sloan, driving in his first ever race, was third.####
