SUPER SATURDAY TRIPLE FEATURE AT MADERA SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAYIt will be Hoosier Tire Night, presented by the Madera Auto Center, when Madera Speedway returns to action on Saturday night, June 14th with round #3 of the Super Saturday Series.

This very special Father’s Day program will feature a triple header of main events for the combined 410 and 360 Supermodifieds, Bay Area Racing Association (BCRA) Midgets, and Western Late Models. Also racing on this huge six-division program will be the Legends of the Pacific, American Limited Stock Cars (ALSC) and Hornets.

These special combination open-wheel/stock car programs have become a big hit with both the fans and teams. By offering a wide variety of racing, with three feature events at an affordable price, combined with the fan friendly and electric atmosphere offered by the historic "Fastest 1/3 Mile in the West" makes the Super Saturday programs one of the biggest bargains available.

Veteran pilot Jeff Russell of Boise, ID, and Dinuba’s Troy Regier, with more than 70 career SMRA Supermodified victory trophies overflowing from his shelves, picked up wins in the first two Super Saturday events of the season. They will again face host of eager challengers from throughout the Western United States including Bryan Warf of Meridian, ID, Whitey Janssen of Dayton, NV, Bobby Dalton of San Martin, Martin McKeefery of Milpitas as well as local aces Jim Birges of Fresno and Ernie Coppo of Clovis.

The pavement shaking 410s will once again run in a combined feature with Madera’s 360 Supermodified division. The unique format produced a field in excess of 20 cars for Super Saturday #2 on May 10th.

Fresno’s Kenny White leads defending track champion Lance Tatro of Madera in the Madera 360 Modified standings by a 104 to 81 point margin. Other locals expected to be racing this Saturday include hometown hero Kenny Kinchen, Bakersfield’s David Tuey, Kingsburg’s Lance Jackson and fan favorite Donnie Large of Fresno.

The ultra competitive BCRA Midgets, which compete on both asphalt and dirt, have already produced six different winners in just seven events on the 2008 schedule. North Carolina’s Sane Hmiel, a former NASCAR Busch and Craftsman Truck driver, won the BCRA race in Super Saturday #1 on April 5th and Dallen McKinney, of Clovis, took home the first place trophy on May 10th.

The BCRA standings have flopped at the top since the last visit to Madera. Visalia’s Scott Nail now holds the edge over San Jose’s Nick Foster Jr. by a 618 to 581 margin while seven-time series champion Floyd Alvis, age 73-year-old of San Carlos, has moved into third with 541 points.

Modesto’s Kyle Gottula managed to just hold off a hard charging Joey Stearns, of Stockton, in last Saturday’s Western Late Model 50-lap feature to capture his fourth straight win. The 21-year-old second generation racer has now amassed five victories and 10 top five finishes in just 10 Madera starts this season to lead Stearns in the battle for the 2008 track championship by a 331 to 270 point margin. Trevor Schlundt, age 18 of Clovis, sits in third with 253 points, Modesto’s Belletto holds down fourth with 252 and Stockton’s Ross Strmiska rounds out the top five with 221.

Stearns and Gottula are neck and neck in the latest NASCAR Whelen All American Racing Series rankings as well. The pair sit one-two the California state rankings and 14th and 15th nationally with Stearns holding a narrow eight point (337 to 329) edge on Gottula thanks to a couple of additional starts at other NASCAR sanctioned facilities. Top Madera rookie point’s leader Vito Ranuio, of Stockton, holds down the ninth position in the NASCAR state rankings.

The Legends of the Pacific always put on an exciting and wild show, but their last appearance at Madera on May 15th may be hard to top. Dustin Ash, Kelly Martin and Cole Cabrerra barreled three abreast into turn one on the final lap and touched, causing all three to spin and allowing Rocklin’s Robby Czub to capture an unexpected victory.

Howard Holden, of Clovis, has watched his early season lead in the points slip to a less than comfortable 282 to 258 spread over Stockton’s Brian Vosburg in the rough and tumble ALSC division. However, it is third place Dennis Saunders Jr., of Modesto, who has the hot hand heading into this Saturday having posted the first two wins of his career in the past two events.

Ticket prices for the Saturday, June 14 program are only $25.00 for adults, $23.00 for seniors 65 years of age or older, $20.00 for students, active duty military and juniors age 13-17, $5.00 for kids age 6-12 while kids 5 and under are free when accompanied by a paying adult. A family pack ticket (two adults and up to two kids, 12 years old and under) is also available for the bargain price of just $55.00. VISA and MasterCard are welcome at window #3.

Madera Speedway registration will begin this Saturday at 9:00 AM, the pit gates will open at 10:00 AM, the grandstands open at 2:00 PM, trophy dashes will commence at 5:00 PM and the evening’s opening ceremonies will kick off main event racing at approximately 7:00 PM.

The Madera Speedway is conveniently located at the Madera County Fairgrounds just off to the west side of Highway 99 at the Cleveland Avenue exit.
