MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY AT SOUTH SOUND SPEEDWAYSOUTH SOUND SPEEDWAY

The Quality Car Care Limited Late Models saw 16 cars make an attempt to qualify. There were 10 crate engines and six compression engines. It was Tacoma, Washington’s #14 Billy Weber setting fast time and a new track record with a 13.714 with a compression engine. Wining the Trophy Dash was #1 Shane Sawin. This week’s winner of the Quality Car Care Clean Car Care Award was the #44 Darrin Pierson.
The 50-Lap Main Event saw #6 Devin Eierman bring the field down for the green flag start and lead the first six laps until lap seven when the #38 Chad Hinkle made a pass for the lead. On lap 10, with a bump and run pass for the lead, #14 Weber, driving the High Cedars Golf Club/King’s Transmission Chevrolet Impala would go on to win his second Limited Late Model race of the season. Rounding out their top five were runner up JJ Hamilton, Hinkle, Eierman, and Arlyn Long. Results are unofficial until Tuesday.
The Delta Camshaft Mini Stocks saw no qualifying this week with the line up set by points for the Trophy Dash, Heat races and Main Event. The winner of their Trophy Dash was #56 Dennis Shaffer. The top three in their A-Heat were winner Shaffer, Reggie Gill, and Jon Baglien. The top three in their B-Heat were winner #1 Duane Lacy, Doug McPeake, JR., and Craig Rice.
The #57 Jerry LaPlante would bring the field around for the start and lead the first five laps until #12 McPeake, JR would take away the lead. McPeake, JR would lead the next nine laps with the #29 Kyle Matthews taking away the lead on lap 16. Current points leader, Tacoma, Washington’s #14 Gill, driving the Applebee’s of Chehalis and Olympia/Havin’ Fun Stitchin’ Ford Mustang made a pass by Kyle Matthews on lap 18 and went on to win his fifth 25-Lap Mini Stock Main Event of the season at the West Coast’s fastest 3/8’s mile paved oval. Rounding out their top five were runner up Shaffer, Lacy, K. Matthews, and Devin Matthews.
The Vintage Modifieds saw the #03 Jim Jones set fast time with a New Track Record of 14.868. Their Trophy Dash winner was #28 Charles Peterson. The top three in their A-Heat were winner #7 Mike Clother, Bob Fulmer, and Dave Trapp. The top three in their B-Heat were winner #42 Charlie West, JR., Jim Milligan, and Josh Wyne.
The #88 Robert Rux brought the field around for the start and would lead the first four laps. On lap five, the #03 Jones took away the lead from Rux and went on to win the Vintage Modifieds 30-Lap Main Event. Rounding out their top five were runner up Kiel Hobbs, Fulmer, Clother, and Rux.
The WESCO Sprint Cars saw the #15 Craig Deaver set fast time with a 12.188. Winning the Trophy Dash was #82 Ray Jones. The top three in their A-Heat were winner #71 Kirk Eklund, Forrest Meadows, and Kelly Conner. The top three in their B-Heat were winner C. Deaver, Ralph Deaver, and Doug McLees.
The #7 Conner brought the field around for the start and would lead the first lap until the #11 Rich Leighty took the lead on lap two. On lap six, Leighty would loose the lead to #15 C. Deaver. C. Deaver would go on to win the Sprint Cars 30-Lap Main Event. Rounding out their top five were runner up R. Deaver, Leighty, Meadows, and McLees.
Upcoming racing at South Sound Speedway: Saturday, June 28, 2008 features the Super Stock 100, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, and WMRA. Then for the Independence Day Celebration, on Friday, July 4, 2008, the Old Time Racing Association, Super 4’s, Mini Stocks, and Baby Grands compete followed by FIREWORKS! Saturday, July 5, 2008 we will have the OTRA back again, along with the Limited Late Model 100, Pure Stocks, and Mini Stocks. Programming note: the Bumblebee Enduro that was scheduled for Sunday, July 6, 2008 has been cancelled.
