KIDS GET IN FREE ON PIPE TRADES FAMILY NIGHT THIS SATURDAY AT TOYOTA SPEEDWAY AT IRWINDALETOYOTA SPEEDWAY AT IRWINDALE

![]() IRWINDALE, California – Five races including a Demolition Derby highlight this Saturday’s (June 28) Southern California Pipe Trades Family Night at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale. All youngsters 15 years of age and under will be admitted for free.
The schedule also features NASCAR Whelen All-American division races featuring the ACDelco Super Late Models, King Taco Super Trucks, Justice Brothers Mini Stocks and the D&D Construction Specialties Bandoleros.
Nick Joanides’ season long effort in consistency highlighted by six wins in his last eight races, including a victory in the last race on June 14, has placed him on top of the ACDelco Super Late Model division standings with 422 points. Joanides maintains a rigorous racing schedule also competing in the Auto Club Late Model series at TOYOTA Speedway. The Woodland Hills resident has barely enough time to take a deep breath as four other drivers are within striking distance of his lead. Scott Conaway of Rancho Cucamonga is in second place, 12 points off of the pace with 410 points. After encountering some early season mechanical issues, Newhall’s Travis Thirkettle has been red hot in the last five races scoring two wins, two runner-up finishes and a third place finish in his last race on June 14. His recent success has placed him in third place with 408 points. Dan Moore of Burbank is in 4th place with 396 points and Charles Price of Redlands is in 5th place with 394 points.
The King Taco Super Truck Series resumes action on Saturday with defending champion Pat Mintey Jr. of Quartz Hill leading the division standings with 274 points. In the last race on June 14, Mintey notched his second win of the season and opened up an 18 point lead over second place 17 year old Conner Cantrell of Valencia. Cantrell’s third place finish on June 14 ended a two-race consecutive win streak.
The Justice Brothers Mini Stock division competes on the one-third mile oval and has featured competitive racing throughout the season. The last race on June 14 was no exception with division leader Daryl Scoggins of Sunland overtaking Rich Garver of Torrance for the lead on lap 34 of the 35 lap feature race, beating Garver to the finish line by 0.028 seconds. Scoggins leads the division standings with 236 points, four more than second place Garver. Tom Dye of Stanton is in third place with 220 points and Jacob Rogers of Riverside is in 4th place with 206 points. The Bandoleros will lead off the evening’s schedule of racing action featuring racing’s young guns of tomorrow. The Demolition Derby will close out the schedule. Spectator gates open and qualifying begins at 4 p.m. The King Taco fan appreciation autograph session with drivers, crews and cars will take place on the track beginning at 5:45 p.m. Green flag racing action begins at 7 p.m.

TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale’s drag strip will feature a double dose of Test and Tune drag racing action on Thursday, June 26 and Sunday, June 29. Thursday’s action gets underway with gates opening at 4 p.m. and competition from 5-10 p.m. On Sunday, gates open at 9 a.m. with racing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It costs $20.00 to compete and $10.00 to watch with kids five and under admitted for free.
